ok... i don't get it (???) i was downloading something online the other day... when suddenly i got disconnected. after i REconnected... my computer froze up on me. i then had to shutdown(the incorrect way) and restart my computer. after restarting... something wasn't working right. the system tray thing or whatever at the bottom right corner didn't load up(?). explorer loaded... but nothing else. so i then again shutdown my computer(the correct way this time)... and restarted. ok... everything was fine now. at least... i thought so. after a few minutes... my computer then again freezes up on me. once again(!)... i had to shutdown the incorrect way. after another restart... the system tray wasn't loaging again. so tried to load it manually... and use MSCONFIG to try to figure it out... but MSCONFIG wasn't able to load up either. as for other programs/systems it tried to use. after experimenting on what worked and what didn't work... here's what i got...
WHAT DOESN'T WORK/LOAD UP:
-system tray
-all programs (messengers, photoshops, p2p downloaders, etc.)
-all accessories (notepad, wordpad, paint, etc.)
-all system tools (scandisk, disk defragment, system restore, etc.)
-some "properties" for some things (destop properites, my computer properties, my documents, etc.)
-shutdown, logoff, run, help... in "start" menu (the only way to shutdown is to ctrl/alt/del... and then shutdown)
-some icons
-others
WHAT DOES WORK/LOAD UP:
-explorer
-desktop
-my network places, my computer, my documents, recycle bin
-control panel... but not the items IN it
-shortcut to connection (surprisingly)
-internet explorer (surprisingly)
-scandisk (with improper shutdown)
-very few others
ummm... ok? so now what? some things work... and some things don't. everything else seems to be fine. no lagg... no errors. it's just that i can't get into things or that they just won't load up. now even before all of this happened... i tried to free some space... and i did deleted some things. but i'm pretty sure i didn't delete anything that would effect my computer. i'm hoping i don't need to reinstall windows or anything... or do some kind of clean boot because i really need some of the progams that i can't get back. erRRR... you bastard!!!

Use nice easier to know what you talking about topic headers as noted in Forum Rules
Then,
Clear everything from the Startup
Remove all from registryRUN and RUNONCE
boot into safe mode run virus scan & spyware killer
reboot and see what happens.
if still dead, try using hijackthis, which does a good job of showing you what runs/starts when windows boots up, and think about it.
Hope it helps

Good advice mentioned above.
Also:
You might also click on your start button and from the Run box type
sfc.exe and scan for altered system files.
