Adobe Reader 6 ... NOT AGAIN!

Recommended Posts

Lois, don't answer me to look around the forum because I already did!

I decided to change my way of installing Adobe Acrobat Reader 6.0.1 (French)

Why? Because I can save more than 10Mb on my CD.

Before I used the following with RunOnceEx:

REG ADD %KEY%\004 /VE /D "Adobe Reader 6.0.1" /f
REG ADD %KEY%\004 /V 1 /D "%systemdrive%\install\Applications\AdobeReader\AR6.msi /qn" /f

Now, I want to do it the other way I found on the forum:

AdobeReader6.exe -p"-s /v\"/qn\""

EVERY examples I saw came from a batch file and since I am using RunOnceEx, I need to add an extra "

All I want to know is where it should be? like this? (after .exe)

REG ADD %KEY%\003 /V 1 /D "%systemdrive%\install\Applications\AdobeReader\AdobeReader6.exe" -p"-s /v\"/qn\"" /f

I've already tried this way but it doesn't work: (after everything)

REG ADD %KEY%\003 /V 1 /D "%systemdrive%\install\Applications\AdobeReader\AdobeReader6.exe -p"-s /v\"/qn\""" /f

REG ADD %KEY%\003 /V 1 /D "%systemdrive%\install\Applications\AdobeReader\AdobeReader6.exe -p\"-s /v\"/qn\"\"" /f

Don't forget to escpage quotes, and count the embedded quotes correctly ;)

You didn't escpe the quotes after the p and just before the last quote, and then the missing quote is unescaped (the one just before the /f)

Could have sworn I've posted that exact line before.

Thanks again Alanoll!

I've tried different search query but it didn't came out:

Adobe Reader 6

Reader 6 runonceex

acrobat reader

reader switch

etc.

The fact is I don't have a good knowledge about batch files, switches, etc. I am learning a lot with my Unattended projects (and of course this forum)

  • 4 weeks later...
RyanVM has a modified adobe acrobat on his site. it is really small in size super compression. check it out.
Yes, but Incroyable HULK wanted a french version of it.

@Incroyable HULK

Why not just download a newer version (6.0.2 is latest now), make an Admin-install point of it, and then make a RAR/SFX of it. That will still make the size as small as what you are now having while using the ( -p"-s /v\"/qn\"") switch, but the time taken to install the acrobat reader will be much quicker.

Well the thing is I wanted to reduce the size BUT I also want to keep it simple...this method is easy to maintain :P

Since the basic 6.0.2 french version is not available does somebody know the switches to apply the Update pack silently?

I always download from this place:

Oh sorry I just realized I have the full version not the basic one...

but WHAT A MESS :

1- Full French Version 6.0.1 + Update 6.0.2 = 20,1Mo

2- Full French Version 6.0.2 = 38,7Mo

also there is an other update available just released: Adobe Interactive Forms Update SP1 - multiple languages 2,8Mo

Ah crap! I just hate it when a company do that :realmad:

P.S. I still need the silent switch for the 6.0.2 update installer...

If there's a French full version, you should be in luck. Most likely, it's packaged the same way as the US full version, with an MST file and CAB included with the 6.0.2 files. Just make an administrative install point with MST file being called as well.

Hey RyanVM

u shld advertise your Adobe Acrobat "Reader". :P

You mean like this?

Adobe Acrobat Reader 6.0.2 Switchless Installer (15.0MB). Self-extracting switchless installer which already has the 6.0.2 update integrated into it. Also, PrintMe Internet Printing is completely removed.
