If I want to request for example hotfix Q923762 for Windows 2000 SP4
(for unofficial win9x kb918899 update )
and want the "German" or for example "Spanish" version of this fix do I have to write to an other e-mail address than support@microsoft.com?
Or is it enough to write them the desired language in the mail and then send it to support@microsoft.com .

you can request the hotfix for a different language as long as you mention the language version of Windows (ex. Windows 2000 Professional SP4 German).

note that you can also send your request to wrhelp@microsoft.com

I would not bother requesting 923762. Microsoft is updating 918899 on August 22 to include the fix in 923762. I will update the 98/SE/ME/NT4 fix at that time.

It is mentioned here: http://blogs.technet.../16/447023.aspx

so it should be true.

likewise. however, MS revised KB918899 for IE6SP1 for Win2000 SP4/WinXP SP1 on August 24 instead of August 22. If you install the RTMQFE edition of 918899 for IE6 SP1 the patch should update the URLMON.DLL file to version 6.0.2800.1567. You MUST install the RTMQFE edition of 918899 to get the benefit of the 923762 hotfix as it will not work with just installing the RTMGDR edition of 918899.

@erpdude8: see my post in the new updates topic. MS made a screw up in the writing of the versions of urlmon.dll.

speaking of KB918899, there are the KB923996 hotfixes for XP SP2 and WS2K3 SP1 that fix the problems the WinXP SP2 and Win2003 SP1 versions of KB918899 cause. unlike MS revising the KB918899 patch for IE6 SP1, MS will NOT revise the KB918899 patches for XP SP2 and WS2K3 SP1 to include KB923996.

the_guy,

I wonder if you need the revised Q316638 hotfix for WinME. there are actually two versions of the Q316638 hotfix.

Look at MS article 316638:
http://support.micro....com/?id=316638
and look at this MS site which also mentions the Q316638 hotfix:
http://www.microsoft...ghperf-drv.mspx

difference between the two is the version of the portcls.sys file.

Original Q316638 patch has the following files listed from the MS Audio Device Performance page:

Quote

02/02/2002 11:09am 4.90.0.3002 147,744 KMixer.sys
02/02/2002 12:45am 4.90.3001.0 147,184 PortCls.sys
08/08/2002 04:16pm 4.90.3001.0 49,296 SysAudio.sys
the Q316638 patch listed in MS article 316638 has the following files:

Quote

15-Feb-2002 2:09 4.90.0.3002 147,744 Kmixer.sys
24-Jan-2003 1:27 4.90.3002.0 147,280 Portcls.sys
12-Aug-2002 6:16 4.90.3001.0 49,296 Sysaudio.sys

The one MDGx has on his site is the original Q316638 with version 4.90.3001 of the Portcls.sys file.

Send your hotfix request by going to this MS support page:

MS article 316638 has been removed from the Microsoft Support site and perhaps the Q316638 hotfix for WinME is no longer available.

As a last resort, one can try calling Microsoft support for a hotfix if you can't use the email method. Follow the steps here:

Even better. Follow the directions of requesting hotfixes from Microsoft by trying out one of the 4 methods listed on this TheHotfixShare.net forum topic:
http://thehotfixshar...hp?showtopic=11

I'm sure sybesma, the OP would be proud of the methods listed there.

I have created a form to make it easier to request a hotfix from MS:
