My computer does absolutely nothing, no lights, no fans, no action. It seems to be completely dead

First thing i would replace would be the Power supply.
Get yourself an Allied, Enermax or Antec 350w or higher.
From there you can swap out componets to see if one thing or the other is casusing the problem.
More likely then not its just the power supply.
However hopfull there wasent a spike in voltage casueing damage to the internal hardware of the system.

did you check to see if the wall outlet works? might be a breaker that went off or something. chesck simple electrical stuff before going into major reparations. try turning it on useing a socket your sure works.

back to the original topic... if you know what your doing.. on the ATX connector (big white connector that plugs into the mainboard.. NOT THE WALL!) connect a paper clip or some other wire from the green plug thingy to a black plug thingy... if the powersupply fan turns on then its probably not your Powersupply but maybe connections on the motherboard..
if you have replaced the mother board or any other component inside the computer make sure the power switch is plugged to the main board correctly.

Ok... Lets start from the obvious and go down a list...
Is it plugged in and switched on at the wall socket?
Is the fuse in the plug ok?
Try another power lead (one that you know works!)
Does the PSU have its OWN switch on the back and is it on?
Does anything else run from the same socket? i.e. desk light - does it work?
If all above fails, then the problem is the pc...
Test the Psu - as per Biohazards post.. BE CAREFUL there are lots of connectors in this plug! If the psu powers up then the motherboard is faulty. If not then the psu is faulty.
