Windows XP has the bizarre property of being able to browse a domain even when you are logged on locally, i.e. not logged onto the domain. Is there any way of switching this off??

Sure is. Disable the Computer Browser service.

Open Control Panel --> Administrative Tools --> Services

Double click the Computer Browser service to open the applet.

Change the Startup Type to Disabled

That should do it.

No, you can still browse local disk and mapped network drives.
