what does this mean and how can i do that?

connecting to port X and sending a carriage return.

"Carriage return" is nothing but an "Enter" key-stroke. (also represented as c/r)
It has its origins in the days of type-writers whose (ink-impact-head) carriage had to be returned to starting point again, to start a new line.
