try this to make the taskbar transparent:
Hawkeye ShellInit

you can use it to set margins aswell.

What program are you using for the sidebar? is it Sidebar?

I haven't touched that program in a while, so I'm not sure what improvements they've made.

Check the entire post for the Command propt desklet. There should be alternate mirrors there.
