Ok... from the first time I joined this forum until now... I've gotta say that Dagonet' definately takes the prize of the most artistic desktops. So much variation! :)

All the desks here are super stuff....One of the reasons I join so many forums is to see what others like or prefer also..It's great to see so many variations in appeal, these actually transform my everyday attitude towards my themes. Seeing what others have to dress up the occassion.. :thumbup

It's been a while. I was really satisfied with my previous desktop so it took a while to change. Does anyone have any suggestions for a metre to replace that (IMO somewhat) ugly rainmeter on the right side of the screen?

You could try using Samurize or Coolmon. AveDesk with SysStats also allows for displaying of system information like that.
