Does anyone know of any sort of application that's small, lean and can capture images from a digital camera providing that the proper driers for it are installed?

doesn't your camera show up in my computer or something?
windows has built-in scanner & camera support...

Timershot is a powertoy from Windows. It is available from free from Microsoft:
