trouble setting resolution at first startup

no matter what i seem to try, whenever windows starts for the first time after the install it always asks me to change the resolution (ie little dialog box with OK in it)....i'm not sure if it is not reading the winnt.sif properly or the setting is just wrong.....

also like another thread.... http://www.msfn.org/...showtopic=38686 i am unable to add the user properly, using both methods described in these forums and guides.... wouldn't have thought it would make difference, but both methods are still implemented....however the OOe.......ini file was the first try and it simply didn't work....really stumped...all my applications work....just need this logon to work (and the right screen res)

any help would be appreciated.

for resolution to work

u NEED to have drivers installed for your graphics card
then u need 2 post your winnt.sif file

and if your testing this on vmware, u will need 2 use vmware's graphics drivers

well ok, i am using VMware to test....but how am i supposed to install any drivers before windows starts? winnt.sif attached for your perusal....

by using the OEMPnPDriversPath, which you have done.

Just ignore the box in VMware. If you have your drivers set to install for a real system,you won't get the box.

The easy way I got around it...

Goto the Unattended downloads page and grab 1395ChangeVid.exe and place it some where on your UA CD...

Then in your RunOnceEx simply run this program with the parameters needed for the resolution you want..

2 caveats to using this with VMWare:
1. You must use a Refresh Rate of 1.
2. It cant be one of the very 1st things on your RunOnce list or else it wont work for some reason.. I have this launch after a couple programs install

My ROE code...

REM :: Change Resolution ::
REG ADD %KEY%\100 /VE /D "Change Resolution" /f
REG ADD %KEY%\100 /V 1 /D "VidChng.exe \"1024x768x32@1 -q\""  /f

The only other way around this is to do what MCT said and install the VMWare drivers... I actually have my RunOnceEx install the VMWare tool kit automatically so it takes care of this as well...

Alanoll: thankyou, that seems reasonable....when i get to doing it on a full machine it should be fine...even if its not, its not to bad....everything else works...well except for the autologon...

durex: i'm not fussed about the resolution during app install...i'm referring to after the first start of windows....as Alanoll said, its because the drivers aren't loaded for the VMware machine....

thanks guys, thought i was going insane...only one more prob to go....yay
