Could you guys advise. I have installed IIS with FTP.
I have dynamic IP

How do i configure for authorised people to download from my FTP?

I tried ftp://MY IP ADD -at this point anonymous users are allowed-

and it failed saying that there was a network connectivity problem. DNS server is running fine.

thx

Give some more details please.

It should be easy enough to get working. I run a ftp and use a dynamic service to keep my address. As for IIS, I would stear clear of it and use another FTP server. WS_FTP is my choice.

The main thing you should check is that the your isp allows you to run a ftp.

hail hail

I would highly advise against opening Port 23 for FTP. Once you open that port every port sniffer on the net will be hammering your connection...

Thanks Brian873. What other information would you like to know? I used WS_FTP before and had similar issues. This is what i do

go to http://www.whatismyipaddress.com/ for my ip add
Go to a web browser and tyep ftp://ipAdd it returns back that it cant get connected. Now you may have a point about my ISP if they allow me FTP but is this still required even though im not using any of their software only ther internet connection?

looking at their website itgave this info for FTP

FTP settings
Address: http://www-cache.tiscali.com/
Port number: 8080

if thats the info for me to add im not sure where to add it

thx

1. you can use any oter port to access ftp, like ftp://111.111.111.111:6659 in this case ftp is running on port 6659

2. how do you access the Internet? Do you use router? If so, you have to configure port forwarding function

There should be an option for you to forward ports within the routers settings

Definately port forwarding!

If you want a secure FTP client, then you want WinSCP3...

On your router there is a function called Port Forwarding and make sure you forward port 21 to 198.162.0.2

On your router you will need to configure port forwarding to go to the PC that hosts your ftp. To do this most have a browser baased admin system some common ones are...

http://192.168.0.100
http://192.168.1.1
http://192.168.100.100

But check your manual

Public---------------------router/firewall-----------------------FTP
Internet address----------------------------------------------- Local address
80.110.10.87------------<forward FTP to>-------------------192.168.0.2

Does that make sense ?

I would also give your FTP a static IP as if another pc conects with a dynamic addrerss of 192.168.0.2 it means the port is open to attack.

hope this makes sense :}
