Is it possible to compress files in the folder "$OEM$\$$\System32" to e.g. "somefile.dl_" with makecab?
(similar methor as in the coming driver packs)
I mean, will these files be uncompressed by windows automatically during installation?
This could save a lot of space for e.g. the "unattended codec pack"...

Well, try it out and know to tell us the results!
I'm guessing "no", as I presume Windows has an index of the files to be copied.

never tried it but i don't see why it would work as it isn't called anywhere to be extracted.
you can cab it, place it on i386 and then add the propper entries to txtsetup.sif and dosnet.inf but this would be a lot of work, better the old known sfx modules
