Has anyone here tried replacing the color icons with say monotone icons to see if that lessens the memory usage or increases the speed?

I removed most 16/256 color icons and all the ones bigger than 48x48.
I only tested it in VMWare, but didn't notice any speed-increasement.
I may run some benchmarks and see if there are increasments.
