Silent_Stryder
Is you system by any chance a Dell? My Dell at work had ( Had to use it in another computer) the same modem and I was able to get it to work with the drivers supplied by Dell. Of course it could be different, but I'm just taking a stab......

BAH
Yep the pc is home built, the modem is just a backup but the think dont like xp at all it recognised it but it wont dial out....Ill be adding some more pics of the car this week, keep checking.I also got my mate to record a wav at the weekend of the engine its on the site now.Regards,BAH
Guest LouCypher
This seems like a stupid question but since you said XP recognizes it but won't dial out...What message is it giving you, or is it not showing up under "Phone and Modem Options" in Control Panel. Does it come back with Diagnostic information under Properties, or does it fail at that point to communicate with the modem. The stupid question would be are you sure it hasn't been fried by a surge? (lightning)If it had been you'd still be able to get diagnostic info in most cases but you'd get error messages during the dialup process.I used to work as a PC tech and people not using a surge suppressor on the phone line was the reason why modems were are biggest seller and most frequent replacement. People think they're safe just having a surge suppressor on the A/C.The easiest answer would be if it's still working under another OS.
BAH
Yes it passes the diags and recognises the modem, im using the win2k driver that came with it, but when it attempts to dial it doesn't pick up the line and just sits there pretending to dial.If i plug it into my laptop Win98 it works everytime.Regards,BAH
Guest LouCypher
I'm stumped. Other than needing a new driver, I dunno.
Silent_Stryder
You may want to try these drivers. They came from Dell and are for Win XP....... As I said before, I run Dells at work and I had these drivers work. Maybe they will do you some good.....ht*p://support.dell.com/us/en/filelib/results.asp?sid=DIM_PNT_P3C_4100〈=FR&lib=0&os=WW1&searchtype=filter&devid=1535Do not post active links.....your link was modified by a admin/mod[/color:2ceadf92aa]

roban
I had a Conexant HFC modem and had the same problem with XP. I found a generic Conexant HFC driver and installed it and it ran fine. It just did not have the voice capability. I have the driver although I finally switched to an ESS with plenty of XP support. If you want the driver I can e-mail it to you. roban@optonline.net
