Changing Drive Id's?

Recommended Posts

Hardware in question:

ASUS A8N Sli Deluxe

2xRaptor 74GB SATA (programs) plugged into sata1 and sata2

Maxtor 200GB SATA (data) plugged into sata4 (tried sata3 also)

Maxtor 200GB IDE (backup) plugged into secondary ide

When I try to install windows, windows always wants to install the bootloader on id0, which is being assigned to the IDE drive by my mobo. The problem is that I don't always leave the backup drive in the computer. I want the entirety of the OS on my raptors.

I've been unplugging the IDE drive each time I install windows (which is quite often.) Then, the data SATA drive becomes id0. So I unplug that too. Then I can finally install windows.

Why does my motherboard insist on putting my raptors last in line? I've tried modifying boot order in bios, no help.

On another machine (MSI nforce4 neo) with a raptor and the 200GB maxtor SATA, the bios puts the raptor first. Why not on my Sli Deluxe?

Thanks a ton!
