what makes a good operating system?

What is it about your OS that makes it so good? or do you just use it because everyone else has told you to?
i setup linux on a pc at college and people where coming over to look at it all evening,.. because they had never seen it before. some also came over to look at xp as they had seen that either! :)
you would think that it being the most vital bit of software you use everytime you turn your pc on that they would research whats out there... but obviously not.

so why do you use what you use?

I use XP because the stability is better than 98.
I use a PC because it challeges me and it makes a great cup of coffee :)

hmm.. simply user friendly, great technical support and a stable enviroment.. Windows XP + sp1 :)

nothing else i know of can offer me what windows does ....point and click ...supports a ton of apps and games...runs like a clock

WindowsXP Professional does it for me!!
