Im setting up my home network, and everything is working.... kinda, When i go into my network places, i see my moms computer, but i can access it because my moms firewall(zonealarm) is automatically blocking it. and when i try to access her computer the zone alarm message pops up saying...

Quote

The firewall has blocked Internet access to your computer (NetBIOS Session) from 192.168.1.102 (TCP Port XXXX) [TCP Flags: S].

how can i fix this?

You gotta go into the rules section and either allow all neighbourhood traffic or setup a rule that allows that IP address

Question: Does your router also act as a firewall? If it does, then why do you have ZoneAlarm? :} I just find it a hassle...

set up a rule in NetBIOS or zonealarm, but i tried looking the settings of zonealarm and theres no place where you can add the IP address to be unlocked

I got this to work but its 1 sided.

I can connect to my moms computer and go through her shared folders without asking for a password. But everytime she trys to connect to my computers shared folders, it asked for a password, and i dont know the administrators password. Ive tried all the passwords i can think of. And when i go into control panel>>User accounts>> the computer administrator doesnt have a password. ???

On home you can't logon to the root admin password in safe mode. So you will have to create another admin. Did you do your firewall settings?

Which machine are you logging on as Administrator so that you even need to change the password?

You should have & use the same account & password on both machines. You can "Logon as" if you wish but still use the main account that you use on the "server" machine. If that is not working then have you checked the Windows firewall, not ZoneAlarm, on the machine that can't be connected to? That must have an exception set for "File and Printer Sharing".

You can't have blank passwords either. You have to change the system policy to allow network access using blank passwords.

Try checking those things.

Windows firewall is allowing it, nothing stopping it there. The windows firewall is completely off.

Both computers are signing in as administrator. Neither using a password to log in as.

You have to change the Local Security Policy under Local Policies --> Security Options --> Accounts: Limit local account use of blank passowrds to local console login only to Disable or set the passwords to something. I think that should help.

Check to make sure the user names are the same. Also remember to have the network groups for the users.

There is no Local Security Policy in XP Homo? I thought you could set password policies and such. Hmmm... I reformatted my laptop as soon as I got it and reloaded with Pro. Dunno then. XP Home has terrible networking fuctioniality. There is nothing under Control Panel --> Administrative Tools? That blows. Try running MMC from the command prompt and adding that module. I think you can add a few snap-ins in XP Home but not all. The user manager snap-in doesn't work I know but the Group Policies may... not sure.

Does netsh work?

You could run 'netsh diag gui' form the command prompt and let it run though and see if there are errors. It's informative if nothing else.

I think you might just want to assign passwords though.
