There are already generic drivers for Win 95 OSR2x
See this link http://toastytech.co...ruzerwin95.html

That's what I already use. Works great for flash sticks, but it doesn't seem to work for USB hard drives. Well, at least not correctly; it installs a USB Mass Storage Port, but the drive doesn't appear.

Thanks for the thought, though, and for the info on how to modify it for unrecognised flash sticks. Might come in handy in the future. :)

My USB 500GB HDD is not seen in W95 in fact it won't see a 40GB, I think it is due to 32GB size limit imposed in Win 95.
I use a GWC - USB to IDE converter with the above driver (http://www.gwctech.c...etail.asp?id=20)
This allows me to use a 30GB HD as a mass storage device with no problems :yes: . This is an improvement on my 8GB HD bios limit :( .

The supplied GWC drivers allow a 120GB drive to be seen in W98SE on my version which is now 3 years old, I have yet to try the new drivers that are available to see if that has been improved. This is unlikely, as an unmodified W2000 is limited to 137GB but if the reg is patched it will happily see the larger harddrives with the converter without the installation of additional drivers. (My Win98SE does not like NUSB drivers by MD)

Anyone got a 750GB HD driver for windows 95????

Plus your in the wrong thread look down a fes threads for the "Enable48BitLBA | Break the 137Gb barrier!" thread you'll get better help in that thread.

I have used a 320GB, single partition, FAT32, USB2 Hard Disk on a Windows 98SE system using just the NUSB update (didn't have the Enable48BitLBA update installed)

Worked without a hitch and I tested it beyond the 137GB barrier.

The disk (seagate ide 16MB buffer) came with NTFS pre-installed on it, so I had to use a neat program "swissknife 3.22" http://www.compuapps.../swissknife.htm to create a large single FAT32 formatted partition.

I actually used the program on a WinXp box, but the program says it works in Win 95b/98/me/2000/XP/NT 4.0

What? That's WinXP's limit for FAT32. Anyway, USB HDDs don't use the same driver.

Just to clarify, WinXp supports FAT32 hard disks bigger than 32GB... it just doesn't let you create (or format) them from within WinXP or from its bootcd.

So what are the limits for IDE HDD size on Win95 ? Same as unpatched 98SE/ME ?

I wish.
Win 95 Retail FAT16 2GB same for NT4
Win 95 OSR2x FAT32 32GB
Win 98 Retail FAT32 64GB
Win 98 SE FAT32 127GB
Win ME FAT32 127GB (I assume, I never used it)
Win 2000 FAT32 32GB create only Can mount larger partitions
Win XP FAT32 32GB create only Can mount larger partitions
see other comments above
Theoretical limit 2TB and MS only got to 127GB (I know, this was also the limit of the disk tools) still I don't think they really tried.

USB HD drivers are different, but we were talking retro fitting in W95OSR2 and how to get it to work. MD's files can't be used there.

Thanks Galahs for your information (I will try a fresh W98SE install this weekend and see if I can get it to work) and the link to swissknife - I had not heard off it.

The truth: Windows 95 supports hard disks of up to 137 GB in size, except on systems with a Phoenix BIOS using BitShift translation.

btw you can have allmost 4gb fat16 partitions on nt4

_NUSB.INF in English version -

;Localizable strings
Lang			= "RU"
LocaleID		= "UPD"
UpdName = "Windows 98 Second Edition Q242975 Update"
AdvPackWarn = "You need a newer version of advpack.dll."
SrcDiskName		= "Native USB-flashdisk for Windows 98 3.3 Eng include 242975"
Note the "Lang" value... (?)

By-the-by,
Result after installing 98SE using UBCD (latest) without NUSB3.1 (version currently used in UBCD), then installing NUSB3.3 (after above correction to "EN") -
- correctly does NOT overlay pre-existing components also in NUSB (UBCD versions newer)
- DOES cause EXPLORER.EXE Icons on desktop to change to older EXPLORER.EXE of NUSB
- deleting ShellIconCache or using TweakUI to Repair Explorer Desktop Icons corrects this
So, is this just an ideosyncracy of just "attempting to overlay" as found in "_NUSB.INF"? (I don't know how the INF/QFECheck stuff would prevent inadvertant overlay of newer modules but screw up icons.) Any ideas?

Also noted install places all files in OPTIONS\CABS... Rationale? Some official/unofficial in UBCD don't do this, eg Unofficial Q891711 (User.exe/User32.dll) and Unofficial ExplorUp (EXPLORER.EXE). And if they did, would it "hose" anything? Sigh... so confused!

Hmmm .....

Nusb98fe versions have been corrected since 3.12 ... can anyone confirm whether it should be ENG or ENU ? or something else ? or its a minor thing ?

Hi, PassingBy!
Check the language code at VS_FIXEDFILEINFO structure (version resource as seen by eXeScope, for instance) and I bet you'll find most, if not all, files are 0x0409. Then, as "American English" = "ENU" = 0x0409 and "British English" = "ENG" = 0x0809, IMHO "ENU" is the best choice.
