Maximus-Decim Native USB Drivers

Recommended Posts

Another benefit of the USB connector outer casing is ESD and EMI protection. Those slim USB drives must also make trade-offs to achieve the reduction in size, like a reduction in transfer speed. There is no easy way to cheat physics.

The Casio camera, however, requires QV2KUX.SYS, a driver not present in NUSB (any version) and presumably not compatible with 9x/ME, until proof to the contrary.

After doing a WDMCHECK for QV2KUX.SYS, I got module has no missing import links.

If you can add the drivers and send me the updated USBSTOR.INF,

I can test this over the holidays.

I'm going to borrow a casio/canon digital camera just for testing purposes. Thanks

OK, this is a related-news that could be interesting for both projects:

Commit by cgutman :: r55555 reactos/ (144 files in 45 dirs): (link)

[uSB]

  • We proudly merge the first charge of the usb-bringup branch. We do want to stress hardware support is still under heavy development and testing in real hardware is experimental
  • Merge the Human Interface Device Stack(HID) which is used for mice / keyboards and other devices which use the USB interface, consisting of hidusb, hidparse, hidclass, mouhid, kbdhid
  • Merge the composite driver, supports USB composite devices, laid out in usbccgp
  • Merge the generic hub driver, which supports the USB root hub and in future USB hubs. Driver is usbhub
  • Merge the Open Host Controller Interface driver (ohci)
  • Merge the Enhanced Host Controller Interface driver (ehci)
  • Merge the many fixes in other areas of ReactOS needed for USB to work (ntoskrnl, pci, inf, umpnpmgr, usetup)
  • Special thanks goes the Haiku team, whose excellent code has provided a great base for the development of the new ReactOS USB / HID stack
  • The development of the USB stack has shown the great potential when ReactOS developers team up together to achieve a common goal. The involved developers are here, listed alphabetically: Alex Ionescu Amine Khaldi Cameron Gutman Johannes Anderwald Michel Martin Thomas Faber Thomas Lotz(Haiku) Let's start the ReactOS revolution

Hope that helps, or at least inspires !

Regardless of the brand, consider the following: some manufacturers, in an effort to produce ever slimmer pendrives, decided to omit the armor (metal outer-casing) from some of their pendrive's connectors. The SONY Micro-Vault Tiny was one of the first such armorless pendrives. But... the armor is there for many reasons, one being that it helps hold snugly the connectors in both parts of the USB connection (the pendrive and the machine's USB connector), so that, by omitting it, the manufacturer created a less reliable product, that will give bad contact in any well used USB connector, forcing one to jiggle the pendrive to get contact. So, nowadays I avoid buying any armorless connectored pendrive. I like Corsairs a lot, but I do avoid the Flash Voyager Mini line because of this. Just my 2¢, of course.

The latest thing in flash drives use a normal USB connector with the rest of it smaller than the connector, has just enough to stick out so you can get hold of it. Verbatim Store n Stay, Lexar Echo ZX, Lexar Echo ZE, SanDisk Cruzer Fit are available from Amazon. Western Digital also has one but it's a rebranded Chinese cheapie with tons of negative reviews.

How most, possibly all, of these are made is they have a Micro SDHC card between the USB connector's metal shield and a thin PCB with the USB contacts. I presume the reader electronics are in the tiny plastic nubbin attached to the connector.

There's at least one company selling one where you can insert (and remove) your own micro SDHC, from the USB connector end. That one's also available at Amazon.

I got a 4gig Verbatim one for my car stereo. It does not have any blinky LED, which suits me fine so it's not blinking at me while playing tunes and driving at night. I know the Verbatim one has a micro SD card in it because it came up as a card reader when XP recognized it. Dunno if I want to try pulling the card out to see if it has any markings.

Thank you very much. So if I want to try it (in an I865G chipset MB), I have to uninstall the USB2.0 Intel driver? I want to try it in a Hungarian Win98Se.

Yes. Uninstall ALL USB devices, USB 2.0 and USB 1.1 both. NUSB3.5 adds the Windows ME USB 1.1 stack to 98SE which in turn allows greater functionality with composite devices, etc.

Many thanks. Reading back the thread I noticed, that it is possible to change the language to Hungarian. Is it true? I have the MS update 242975HUN8.EXE for Win98SE.

Which files are effected as language specific? My wife do not speak english and will get frightened if she sees enlish messages.

We want to use it (NUSBnnE.EXE) only for various USB2.0 flash drives.

Thank you in advanced

one question:

why ist this fine piece of software only for the ENGLish version of win98se?

someone tried it (unsuccesful) on a different version?

Because it contains some localized Windows 98 SE files, namely:

Hardware.hlp - Q242975

Hotplug.dll 4.10.2224 - Q242975

IOS.VXD 4.10.2225 - Q239696

Systray.exe 4.10.2224 - Q242975

User.exe 4.10.2231 - Q291362

242975xxx8.exe is freely available from Microsoft in many languages - http://support.microsoft.com/kb/242975

291362xxx8.exe is not publicly available hotfix, you have to ask Microsoft Support for your language version

239696xxx8.exe is not publicly available hotfix, you have to ask Microsoft Support for your language version

(xxx is the language version, USA for US English, GER for German, FRN for French, etc.)

I suppose that the English version would work as well, but some system message will be in English. You can try it.

Petr

User.exe 4.10.2231 - Q291362 can be asked from MS, and has official versions in some languages, but unfortunately not in Hungarian. So it has to be localized by hand.

IOS.VXD 4.10.2225 - Q239696 can be asked from MS, but has official versions in English and Japanese only. It can, however, be left in English, because it'll only exhibit messages in some rare error events.
