power calibration error and other stuff

Recommended Posts

Hi I just installed a cd writer+ 9300 series from HP. from the 1st burn, I get power calibration error among other stuff. Well the first time it was can't do fixation or something like that, the log is posted next. I use Nero 6.066 and it did it 3 times, while it worked perfectly and fast without any errors when I got mad and used the built-in windows XP cd burning tool. What's wrong? Nero never left me down, is it some incompatibiliy with nero and hp drives cause nero worked fine untile I changed my old mitsumi for this not-so-new-either HP drive.

So here is the log with the most errors on it, the fixation error I first encontered is listed there, but now it has power calibration error and can't write EndTrack errors too. Very strange

Most Power Calibration Errors are caused by media. I have 4 DVD burners (+,-,+/-,+/-) and have found I need 4 different brands of DVDs.

Strange that you should get these errors with CDs however.... Reminds me of the old days of CD-R technology. Anyway, try different discs.

If it was the media, it would not have worked with the built-in cdwriter of windows XP... if the drive was incompatible with the media it would have done the same mistake.

I have other leads, maybe it's something with NERO and HP, or, I heard it could be a conflict between IMAPI.com something between the built in XP writer and nero that could cause this.

Maybe it helps you to help me, cause it's definetely not the media

I did that, and I tried with a memorex cd i found out I had left, and i worked, then tried again with the kodak ones, and it worked too :thumbup

I will edit this in a couple of burns to confirm if it's really fixed

Hi Thauzar, I just came across this thread when Googling on the phrase "power calibration error", and joined the forum as a result. Anything more to report yet? I've got a brand new WinXP machine, fast, with lots of RAM. First burn worked fine, second one gave me the "power calibration error". I'm using Nero Express 6.

i) I'd like to try the built-in WinXP option, but I'm new to WinXP and didn't know it had a built-in CD burn facility. I couldn't find anything about it in Help. How do I get at it?

ii) I had wondered whether a screensaver kicking in might cause problems, and I have read elsewhere that it can do. Any opinion on that?

Andy

sparge,

Welcome to this forum ;).

You just have to drag and drop the files you like to burn, after that Windows is going to ask you to burn the CD.

A screen saver will not cause problems; you have buffer under run protection on 16x or higher CD burners.

What people are talking about here is to disable SERVICES of a computer. It would be better for you to disable the IMAPI service too with SERVICES.MSC. Just look up the IMAPI service and set status on disable. Then try again to burn a CD. IMAPI is the build-in CD burning program and I don’t know if it even supports DVD :puke: .

Any questions, feel free to ask ;)
