Hello :)

This is a basic thing i know but just can't seem to get it going. I hear there's a program from microsoft i could use to create MSI file's ? is this so

If not please could someone provide me with a link or tips to easy to use software i could use to create my own MSI files.

Yep, you can use tool from microsoft, but you must be quite familiar with msi structure... Instead try Masai Editor (www.masaieditor.com)

Or use WininstallLE which is on your XP & Win2k Server CD in the tools folder.
There are loads out there.

I know it's in W2kS CD but can't find it in the XP CD.

WininstallLE is cool simple stuff, the ONLY problem is that before and after snapshots must be taken on clean machine ... means only Windows installed ... any extra software will create additional keys in the registry that you WILL later import into another computer ...

Hi,

I recently made quite a few MSI packages with WininstallLE, on a system running for about 4 years of Windows XP and it works great.

It simply looks at the system before installation (Before snapshot) and then looks at the system after the installation of the software (after snapshot) and adds the changes to the MSI package. It didn’t add the full registry or keys from other software.

Btw there are plenty of places on the Internet where you can download WinistallLE.
