@ Mdgx:

I must create a new vpatch file [PATFM.EXE] from the Italian winfile.exe, but to do this, I've need your modified version of winfile.exe (with Exescope and MORESTAK.EXE reading READ1ST.TXT).

Give me some indications about changes to make to the italian winfile.exe

Compliments for great work.

This is in short what I did [from READ1ST.TXT]:
* Option 7:

installs patched WinME File Manager (FM) [WINFILE.EXE 4.90.3000]modded with

better bitmap icons (8-bit = 256 colors; original was 4-bit = 16 colors),

more visible cursors (larger + semi-transparent) + "prettier" icon into

%windir% [usually C:\WINDOWS].

Replaced original WINFILE.EXE BitMaPs, cursors + icons with my own using

eXeScope [crippled shareware]:

http://hp.vector.co.jp/authors/VA003525/emysoft.htm#6

Also patched WINFILE.EXE with MORESTAK to increase memory stack space:

http://www.mdgx.com/files/MORESTAK.ZIP

In detail:

Replaced BMP, CUR + ICO files with my own [attached into ZIP at bottom of this post]:

100.BMP

101.BMP

102.BMP

300.CUR

301.CUR

302.CUR

303.CUR

306.CUR

200_16.ICO

200_2.ICO

using exescope:

http://hp.vector.co.jp/authors/VA003525/emysoft.htm#6

Each file name above starts with the respective number found in winfile.exe resources, which you can see when you open winfile.exe in exescope.

In exescope [example]: Bitmap -> highlight 100 -> click File -> Import... -> browse to 100.BMP -> double-click on it.

Repeat this with all other files listed above, but make sure that filename numbers correspond with winfile.exe resource numbers in exescope.

200_2.ICO = replaces Icon 200 -> 32*32, 2 Color

200_16.ICO = replaces Icon 200 -> 32*32, 16 Color

About MORESTAK:

Forget about it, it's unnecessary, doesn't help in any way. Please see this post for details:

http://www.msfn.org/board/?s=&showtopi...st&p=556609

Consequently, I have removed MORESTAK from my site.

If you want to try it, you can find it here:

http://www-user.tu-chemnitz.de/~heha/hs_fr...re/morestak.htm

P.S.:

If you can find another resource editor that works with 16-bit NE (New Executable) files besides exescope, and which supports changing resource file sizes, you may be able to replace the 2 icons above with better 256 colors complex icons [XP style].

If you do, please use WINFILE.ICO, also included in the ZIP attached here, and then please let me know, because I'm looking for such a tool.

This is because the two 16 color icons above [200_16.ICO + 200_2.ICO] are ugly. ;(

I created PATFM.EXE using Vpatch [free(ware)]:

http://www.tibed.net/vpatch/

from modded winfile.exe [target], using WinME setup CD-ROM [English] original winfile.exe as reference [source].

A note for all localizers:

In 02.BAT, the right cab to take RVSEZM.EXE and PINBALL.exe from Win ME CD is WIN_16.CAB.

I've changed this:

C:\9!M\START /W C:\9!M\EXTRAC32 /Y WIN_17.CAB /L "%PF%\Pinball" PINBALL.EXE>NUL

with

C:\9!M\START /W C:\9!M\EXTRAC32 /Y WIN_16.CAB /L "%PF%\Pinball" PINBALL.EXE>NUL

and

C:\9!M\START /W C:\9!M\EXTRAC32 /Y WIN_17.CAB /L "%PF%\GameZone" RVSEZM.EXE>NUL

with

C:\9!M\START /W C:\9!M\EXTRAC32 /Y WIN_16.CAB /L "%PF%\GameZone" RVSEZM.EXE>NUL

@MDGx:

Sound effects and music in pinball.exe there aren't.....

My sound card is Creative Sound Blaster Live Value CT4670 and I have no problem.

In view of Gape's prolonged absence from the forum I think we need to come to some determination about Gape's Unofficial Service Pack. There have been numerous enquiries about him but nobody seems to have an answer. My belief is that Gape has moved on to pastures new. I'm not in any way blaming him for this in any way. His contribution in introducing and developing the Win98SE service packs has been brilliant and magnificent and I wish him well with his future activities. But I move that now MGDx be asked to pick up on the service packs from where Gape left off (i.e. with SP2.1a) so that we don't lose the momentum.

Unfortunately I don't have a network to connect to [i use only the internet], so I can't test this. :(

I don't think you need to be connected to a network to test the respective icon. Just right-click a folder, select Sharing > Shared as: , then click Apply and OK. If everything went fine, you should see a blue hand over the folder's icon, looking like it's offering the folder to someone (pretty suggestive, huh?). If the folder was correctly shared and the icon has not been changed, then the issue is valid and needs to be fixed.

UP, I've discovered that the files sound*.wav e pinball*.mid aren't copied in pinball directory....

Also putting names of respective files and changing number of CAB....

Please update the first post of this topic with my link in signature, I've published 98SE2ME in italian language (in a board discussion about Unofficial Win98 SE/ME Service Pack).

Thanks for your feedback.

Sharing folders this way requires the "File and Print Sharing..." option enabled from Control Panel -> Network.

I have never enabled this on any of my M$ OSes, because I don't need to, and most importantly, because it is a well-known security risk.

But I'll try it in the near future, and I'll fix the hand icon issue if necessary.

Hu$tle:

Please install new 98SE2ME:

http://www.mdgx.com/4

The open hand icon overlay for shared files/folders/drives is now fixed.

This was the BUG:

The desktop icons overlay registry fix [which has been fixed by deleting the SHELL32.DLL value]:

REGEDIT4

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\CLASSES\CLSID\{63B51F81-C868-11D0-999C-00C04FD655E1}\InProcServer32]

@=""

;

But now it is restored to original [added back the SHELL32.DLL value]:

REGEDIT4

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\CLASSES\CLSID\{63B51F81-C868-11D0-999C-00C04FD655E1}\InProcServer32]

@="C:\\WINDOWS\\SYSTEM\\SHELL32.DLL"

;

Replace C:\\WINDOWS with your actual Windows 98 SE path if different.

Do you have modified some INFs file in particular?

Ps: compliments for assignment, msfn mod! ;)
