Hello, MDGx.
It's a very good project, but unfortunately I have exactly the same problem -
RASPPPOE - PPP over Ethernet Protocol for Windows 95/98/98SE/ME

Did you find the solution for it?
Thank you.
Please try this:

1. Install current 98SE2ME edition [as of 7-14-2005]:
http://www.mdgx.com/4
on a 98SE system without any older 98SE2ME versions installed.

2. Install Maximum-Decim's NUSB drivers [98SE2ME should be already installed]:
http://www.msfn.org/...showtopic=43605

2. (Re)Install your modem drivers.
Make sure u have newest modem drivers from your modem manufacturer.

If that doesn't work, please post your results here.

Unfortunately, because I don't have a DSL modem [RASPPPOE], I can't test this. :(

Hope this helps.

Hello, MDGx.

I don't have any modem.
I use this to connect.

Here is a description:
This is a PPP over Ethernet (short: PPPoE) implementation for Windows 95, 98, 98SE, ME, NT 4.0, 2000, XP, .NET. PPPoE as a method for establishing PPP connections through Ethernet adapters is described in RFC 2516 and is used by many broadband service providers to allow authentication and maintain the familiar "dial-up experience" when connecting to the Internet through a broadband modem.

And when I replace 98SE files with Me files I can't see my ISP.

This complicates things, I'm afraid. :(

Please correct me if I'm wrong:
From the little I've read about the www.raspppoe.com implementation, this method of using an Ethernet (NIC) adapter to connect to an ISP [PPPoE protocol] requires a phone line [or a power line where such standard is supported] to connect the Ethernet card to the internet, something similar to using most types of DSL modems, which de facto use the PPPoE protocol.
If this is true, I can't experiment with this protocol, because my ISP is a cable provider [Comcast], and I connect to their servers with a USB cable modem [no separate Ethernet adapter], which uses a different protocol: DHCP over LAN.

Oh, this method does not require a phone line. You just install this protocol, then run RASPPPOE.EXE and it finds available services in your local network. Then it creates a Dial-Up Connection for your Ethernet Adapter. You connect to internet just through Ethernet adapter.
I'm sorry for bothering you.
I've checked dll's used by RASPPPOE.EXE :
INDICDLL.DLL , MSVCRT.DLL , OLE32.DLL , RPCRT4.DLL , TAPI32.DLL , VERSION.DLL
ADVAPI32.DLL , COMCTL32.DLL , GDI32.DLL , KERNEL32.DLL , SHELL32.DLL , SHLWAPI.DLL , USER32.DLL
but I don't know how it may help.

Thanks for the info, I'll see if I can do something to fix this.

Edit:
I wasn't able to make RASPPPoE work with my USB cable modem, no matter what I tried, short of reinstalling Windows. :(
But looking at the DLLs used, this is what you can do to try to fix this:

1. Backup INDICDLL.DLL [from WinME = installed by 98SE2ME], restore the original 98SE file from C:\W98SEOLD\SYSTEM or extract it from the 98SE CABs if u don't have a backup, and then copy it to %windir%\SYSTEM .
Reboot, and see if your connection works.
You may have to run WINIPCFG and press the "Renew all" button.
Reboot 1 more time.

2. If that doesn't work, repeat all steps above with TAPI32.DLL .

All other DLLs on the list work properly as far as I can tell, and some are not even replaced by 98SE2ME.

Either way, please post your results here when you're done.

Hope this helps.

I like this 1 better, I'm going to make it the official 98SE2ME logo.
Keep up the good work. :thumbup

Do u have a d/l link for this new logo?

Thanks a bunch.

OK, sorry for the delay.... the file has been added to the post on the 'previous page' with the preview pic.

Read the RASPPPOE doc guys :

Quote

6. Troubleshooting
6.1 RASPPPOE application does not list the desired adapter
First, be aware that you can use this protocol only on Ethernet network adapters. As PPP over Ethernet only works over Ethernet, the protocol will only bind itself to Ethernet adapters (NdisMedium802_3). Adapters that do not support this medium type (e.g. internal or USB broadband modems that do not expose a standard Ethernet interface through their driver) are not supported by this protocol.

I've read the entire documentation [on + off-line], but I was hoping it would work anyway. ;)

The worst part is everybody I know has cable or dialup, but no DSL. ;(

...sigh... yup, I miss Farscape :( (...and Firefly/Andromeda/John Doe/Angel/Buffy/....the list goes on, most victims of evil "reality" programming, I believe... :realmad: )

-but at least the 2 main chars of Farscape recently transplanted to StargateSG1, and it's great to watch their interaction there (w/the occasional "quip" pointing to Farscape :P )

...and it's nice to see Lexa Doig showing up lately, also in Stargate and The 4400...

Ah, when I clicked the link you gave before, there was another link on that page to the worst sci-fi of all time, so I thought Farscape might be one of those. (unfortunately, I don't get the sci-fi channel). Sounds like the show might be worth looking into. I generally like things by the Jim Henson Co. :thumbup

I only find appropriate [starting with season 9] to call Stargate SG-1 "Fargate SG-1"... :)

Besides the 2 main Farscape actors [Ben Browder (SGC Lt Col Cameron Mitchell) + Claudia Black (thief/trader/mercenary/former G'ould host Vala Malduran)], the Stargate franchise [including the Stargate Atlantis spin-off TV series] producers brought in for the new SG-1 season 9 + Atlantis season 2 [both premiered July 15 2005 on SciFi channel in the USA] a few other known faces from various popular/cult sci-fi TV shows + films:
Stargate SG-1 season 9:
- Lou Gossett Jr [rebel Jaffa leader Gerak] best known from the sci-fi film Enemy Mine [1985] [he played the "enemy" alien]. He won an Oscar award.
- Beau Bridges [Gen MG Hank Landry new commander of SGC = replaced Don S Davis who played Gen MG George Hamond, former commander of SGC] best known from Showtime channel sequel TV series Outer Limits 2-hour pilote episode The Sandkings [1995]. He won an Emmy award.
- Lexa Doig [Dr Carolyn Lam new SGC Chief Physician, also Gen Landry's daughter = replaced Theryl Rothery, former SGC Chief Physician] best known from Andromeda [Gene Roddenberry's early work] TV series.
Lexa Doig is married in real life to Michael Shanks who plays Dr Daniel Jackson on Stargate SG-1.
Stargate Atlantis season 2:
- Jason Momoa [Atterian ronin warrior from the Pegasus Galaxy Ronon Dex] best known from Baywatch + North Shore TV series.
- Mitch Pileggi [Col Steven Caldwell commander of the mixed G'ould + Asgard technology based battleship Daedalus] best known from the abduction + sci-fi genre TV series X-Files.

The wait will be over... September 30 2005: Firefly is coming back as Serenity feature film in USA theatres:

Please tell me, what is the worst sci-fi of all time?
Just curious. ;)

BTW:
SciFi channel is not the only 1 that broadcasts Farscape [reruns only, of course] anymore, Farscape is now available in syndication [usually over the air channels].
I believe either USA, TNT, Fox or/and WB have it. But u got to check local schedules.
Best place to find out exactly which channels broadcast Farscape in the USA:
http://www.watchfarscape.com/
Or if u don't watch TV, u can always rent/borrow/buy the DVDs/VHS tapes:
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/external...pe&mode=blended

If u ever decide to watch Farscape, please start with season 1 ep 1, and go from there in chronological order. They have 4 regular 22 episode seasons + a 4-hour miniseries [the conclusion to the series] called Peacekeeper Wars.
If u start watching somewhere in the middle, u won't understand much, and will probably stop watching out of frustration, as some people I know have.
But IMHO it's worth your time if u are even remotely a sci-fi fan, because Farscape is the best sci-fi TV show since Babylon 5.

Actually rumors say J Michael Straczynski [creator of Babylon 5, Crusade + Jeremiah TV series and writer of Marvel comic Amazing Spider-Man] allegedly stated recently at a sci-fi convention that he wants to revive Babylon 5 in a new TV series if he finds a studio to finance it.
Let's hope he will... ;)
