IE834707: Should install, but it's for IE6 PRE-SP1.

Also, I might release a version of vgx.dll for IE 5.5 SP2 with the zert patch already applied. Maybe even IE 5.01 SP2/3 and IE6 PRE-SP1 (also, seperate for XP version).

BUT IT DOESN'T

That's odd.

Can you tell me what windows version you're running and the versions of the following files:

browseui.dll
inseng.dll
mshtml.dll
pngfilt.dll
shdoclc.dll
shdocvw.dll
shlwapi.dll
url.dll
urlmon.dll
wininet.dll

If it all adds up, I'll do some testing here.

This is the line in the .SED file for that:

Target9xVersion=4.10.1998-4.90.3000:%Warn1%:Ok

That should allow install on 98SE. Warn1 is the error message you receive.

I have no idea.

PROBLEMCHYLD:

You must have IE 6.0 [Pre-SP1] when trying to install IE834707.

the_guy created it to install only on IE 6.0 [Pre-SP1], and will not install on any other newer or older IE build [that includes IE 5.5 SP2, IE 6.0 SP1].

IE 5.5 SP2 files are build 5.50.4807.2300

IE 6.0 files are build 6.0.2600.0000

IE 6.0 SP1 files are build 6.0.2800.1106

So if the SED file contains [for example]:

TargetWin9xVersion=4.10.1000-4.90.3999:%Warn1%:OK

TargetNTVersion=4.0.1000-4.0.4999:%Warn1%:OK

TargetFileVersion=@FileSectionList

[FileSectionList]1=#S\MSHTML.DLL:6.0.2800.0000-6.0.2800.1099:%Warn2%:OK

2=#S\SHDOCVW.DLL:6.0.2800.0000-6.0.2800.1099:%Warn2%:OK

3=#S\SHLWAPI.DLL:6.0.2800.0000-6.0.2800.1099:%Warn2%:OK

4=#S\URLMON.DLL:6.0.2800.0000-6.0.2800.1099:%Warn2%:OK

[strings]

Warn1="The version of Windows you have installed does not match the update you are trying to install."

Warn2="The version of Internet Explorer you have installed does not match the update you are trying to install."

then you won't be able to install IE834707 even if using Win98SE, because it won't install on IE 6.0 SP1 nor on IE 5.5 SP2.

It requires IE 6.0 [Pre-SP1].

Ok.

@ PROBLEMCHYLD (sp?): Can I still have version numbers of the files that I asked for earlier. It might help with troubleshooting and getting the patch to install properly.

so the following files:

browseui.dll

inseng.dll

mshtml.dll

pngfilt.dll

shdoclc.dll

shdocvw.dll

shlwapi.dll

url.dll

urlmon.dll

wininet.dll

are version 6.0.3790.0? That might explain why it won't install.

6.0.3790.0 is Internet Explorer 6 for Windows Server 2003 - look at http://support.microsoft.com/kb/164539

Petr

Thank Petr but can you explain how they are identical in version but the new

one doesn't install but the old one does.

Keep in mind they have the same exact files package.

I'm confused. You say both, when there are 10 files.

the_guy is the author of this patch:

Unofficial Jet 4.0 SP8 Patch for Windows 9x/NT4/ME [1.9 MB]:

http://www.mdgx.com/files/Q918144.EXE

It is part of the last batch of files he sent me a few days ago.

I don't have Win2000 installed to test.
