Ok.
@ PROBLEMCHYLD (sp?): Can I still have version numbers of the files that I asked for earlier. It might help with troubleshooting and getting the patch to install properly.

so the following files:

browseui.dll
inseng.dll
mshtml.dll
pngfilt.dll
shdoclc.dll
shdocvw.dll
shlwapi.dll
url.dll
urlmon.dll
wininet.dll

are version 6.0.3790.0? That might explain why it won't install.

Thank Petr but can you explain how they are identical in version but the new
one doesn't install but the old one does.
Keep in mind they have the same exact files package.

I'm confused. You say both, when there are 10 files.

the_guy is the author of this patch:

Unofficial Jet 4.0 SP8 Patch for Windows 9x/NT4/ME [1.9 MB]:
http://www.mdgx.com/files/Q918144.EXE

It is part of the last batch of files he sent me a few days ago.

I don't have Win2000 installed to test.

thanks. please revise unofficial Q918144 fix to include newer MSREPL40.DLL file v4.0.9417 from Q910906 hotfix for WS2003. Note, the_guy and MDGx that we do NOT "register" the MSREPL40.DLL file with REGSVR32. I did this on any 32bit version of Windows and it produced an error message. NONE of the MS Jet 4.0 SPs and hotfixes register the MSREPL40.DLL file.

SHDOCLC.DLL

No it's not. The only cumulative update that included shdoclc.dll was the update for XP pre-SP1.

There is a bug that can be seen in the service packs for 98 (Gold) and Me - the Windows version diplayed on desktop is
Windows 98H4.10.1998
instead of
Windows 98 4.10.1998

I'm not sure where is the root of this problem, maybe in some unofficial fix?

It should be corrected in the next (beta) release of these service packs.

Petr

Or as picture:

Attached File  H4.10.2222.png   1.91KB   13 downloads

Attached File  H4.90.3000.png   1.92KB   15 downloads

It looks really terrible.

How you turn on this info on desktop!?

a) In TweakUI - General tab

b) use this REG file: http://www.mvps.org/...reroptions.html and the option should appear in internet options (not tested)

c) In registry - for the current user:
REGEDIT4

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Desktop]
"PaintDesktopVersion"="1"
and for the default user:
REGEDIT4

[HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\Control Panel\Desktop]
"PaintDesktopVersion"="1"

According to my observations this works on Windows 98, 98SE and Me only and not in Windows 95 even though many websites states tht it work in Windows 95 - does not work for me, and none Windows 95 file contains this string (in Windows 98/Me it is in User.exe file)
In Windows NT systems (2K/XP) the value is not string type but dword type.

BTW, KB923789 fix contains Flash Player 6.0.88.

(It replaces KB913433 with Flash Player 6.0.84)

I have no idea if there are also updated versions 7 and 8.

The official MSXML security update update KB927978 does officially not support Win98se but can be installed on Win98se:

Vulnerability in Microsoft XML Core Services Could Allow Remote Code Execution (928088)

link:
http://www.microsoft...Date=2006-11-14

I downloaded the installer, extracted the MSI inside with 7-zip and executed the MSI. It installed without a glitch. I always use the "Belarc Advisor" to check wich updates are installed on my system and it's listed correct. No problems yet!
