Thank for testing the new OLEUP.EXE.

Here is a slightly different version of the installer, now wininit.ini has a new entry for oledlg.001, hopefully this will fix it.
Please test and let me know.

@ MDGX:

You can create an international version simply omitting OLEDLG.DLL from pack.

(ps: recently, I've been working on many old puters (6 and 7 yr old p3's, etc), and after disabling/yanking all the xp CRAP (and properly upgrading those old systems to pretty much the max that their mobo's can take, and EXTREMELY cheaply, too, < $50 to max out each one), it works quite quickly and well, even on those old slow systems... so the famous "old hardware" reasons for sticking w/98/ME instead of xp just haven't applied to ANY of the old systems I've tried it on... another nail in the coffin, I'm afraid...)

Just out of interest, what would you define as the dividing line between putting WinXP as opposed to Win98se onto a machine? For me, its either the CPU is under 350Mhz or the RAM is only 128Mb or below. Your guide of age and/or price is not very precise at all ... the famous "old hardware" reason is famous for a reason ... it's old hardware!! (as defined above). The day i stop coming across useable computers that are on the Win98 side of the above specs is the day i stop installing Win98.

I'm not trying to be narky, i was genuinely interested in what other people consider to be the dividing line ...

You can create an international version simply omitting OLEDLG.DLL from pack.

If you would like to create a French version [translate the scripts: INF, SED + TXT], I can send them to you.
But make sure the DLLs you put in are the original French versions from M$.
To obtain the French Win2000 OLE fix [where the 4528 files come from: English = http://support.micro....com/?id=139071 or French = http://support.micro...om/kb/139071/fr ], you could email M$, or Google them.

The 4522 file comes from Win2000 SP4, which can be obtained from M$ servers in all available languages:

OLEUP.TXT lists all files and their builds [versions]:

Subject: Italian Q258680 Request for Win98SE

Microsoft,

I'm using Windows 98 SE.

I'm getting a problem, I can't change screensaver from display properties because settings are grey.

I've applied fix 258680usa8.exe and the problem is fixed, but I've need of an italian patch because display properties now in english for my Win98SE.

Looked up the error and it appears to coincide with the issue:

Screen Saver Activation While Suspended May Result in the Computer to Stop Responding

...which is mentioned in the Article ID 258680

Is there any way you can e-mail me the fix 258680ita8.exe?

Thanks,

Claude

the_guy,

I've been told by MDGx that you created the unofficial Q926247 snmp.exe/snmpapi.dll patch.
The files from the Q926247 patch do NOT work under Win95 as I've tested recently. Could you revise the patch and make it install ONLY under Win98/ME (and call it Unofficial SNMP Q926247 Fix for Windows 98/ME)?

MDGx and Max_04:

can we try to translate LLXX's 48bit LBA ESDI_506.PDR patches into Italian and/or some other languages?

there was one person who was using German Win98 SE who want to install the 48bit LBA ESDI_506.PDR fix but the ESDI_506.PDR fix is in English, not in German. see latest page of the Enable48BitLBA thread.

also can you make an unofficial DHTMLED.OCX 6.1.0.9242 KB906216 fix for Win98fe/98se/ME? The file seems to work correctly under Win98/ME.

I'm completely available, also for translation of copy2gb fix for any Windows Version.
What must I do?

I've a forum with some users that use win98fe... in case I'll send them every fix available.

Unfortunately I still wait one test.... I hope in some results of 3-4 users.

never mind. I've downloaded some editions of the Q243450 ESDI_506.PDR patch in different languages and the updated ESDI_506.PDR files are in English.

woodpusher noted in the Enable48BitLBA thread that LLXX's ESDI_506.PDR patches seem to be language independent, even though the updated ESDI_506.PDR file is in English.

Yesterday I installed the time update, OLE update and the WMF9 patch (they're the recent ones)... and after that winamp wouldn't work anymore. It had a problem with winamps in_mp3.dll. This dll is in it's own directory under winamp, so it has nothing to do with windows....
Reinstalling winamp wouldn't work.
I had to reinstall windows over the old one (and then install the unofficial SP + IE6.1) to get everything to where it was. I would think it has to do with the WMP, since it also plays mp3's, but I had no clue where to look for... (specially since the dll wasn't even in one of the windows folders).

Anonymous author sent this feedback:

I've had OLEAUT32.DLL 2.40.4522 and the other updated files on one of my PCs for quite awhile w/o noticing any bad side effects, but a few days ago
I came across an issue that indicates even 2.40.4522 is not 100%
compatible with Win98SE. I was trying to install Merriam-Webster's
Dictionary (College Edition, the software is from 2003 or so etc.) under
Win98SE and the InstallShield installer refused to run. Swapping the
2.40.4518 files back in fixed the problem and the dictionary installed
just fine. Swapping again, back to 2.40.4522 (and the other updated
files), caused the problem to reappear.

Anyone else experienced problems with the files installed by OLEUP.EXE?
Please post here if you do.
Thanks.

I've dedicated this entire night to getting Windows 9xPP v5 off the ground. This topic saved me literally DAYS of searching. I praise everyone that's keeping this forum tidy and up-to-date! On that note, Win9xPP will be an essential-patches-only ordeal, so that most languages can be offered, which should make many users of the package very, very happy. :)
