Yes, soporifc, you're right, at least in part:
If you check the file version with getver.exe, it will report 4.90.0.3000, whereas if you select the file in Windows Explorer, right-click on it and select Properties, you'll find 4.90.0.3001...
Of course, as it loads OK in Windows 98SE, it is the patched version, so Properties is displaying the correct value,
but, at hexadecimal file offset 4717, B8 must be changed to B9, to update also the hexadecimal file version, the one getver.exe reports...

i never thought to check properties--- you're really good with these 'only partially right' situations, i think this is my third with you

I'm back.
I had an unfortunate computer crash a couple of weeks ago, so I had to rebuild my PC from scratch.

I have changed the hex address in DISKTSD.VXD as instructed by dencorso [thanks again ], please install again to see if now getver displays the version correctly.
I can't tell because I don't have access to Win98 SE anymore, I'm running XP exclusively for now, my new mobo may [or may not] support 98 SE, so until I get on a computer with 98 SE [or fix my mobo Intel P35 chipset INFs to work with 98 SE], I won't be able to test anything.

MDGx welcome back ... and welcome to my world . Ever since i switched to a mobo that didn't support Win98se, i've been relying on Virtual PC 2007 to do all my AP testing. Its sufficient for doing all the code testing, and then the last thing i do is a real world test on my 3rd machine (an old Pentium 3 machine). Virtual Additions works very well which makes access to the test OS very easy. It will also save you lots of time, my dual CPU handles the VM very well and Win98 inside it runs very fast, and i can also do lots of other stuff at the same time.

RetroOS, don't feel bad that i rebuffed all your advances as to including Java 6 update 4 in AP but as soon as MDGx lists it as a bonafide Win98SE update, wham, its in AP faster than you can say "what would we do without MDGx", its because i'm so used to MDGx being the final word on these things ... then dencorso turned up, and now we've got you as an authority on what works and what doesn't. Has anyone tried to edit their MySpace account profile under Win98SE, having Java 6 installed and set as default? I've had trouble seeing some of the applets (color pickers, sliders, etc) as well as CPU usage to 100% (400MHz Pentium II, 256 MB PC133 RAM). I had to uninstall it. Could anyone else confirm (or not) this behavior?

Nope, that was 6u3 that I had at the time. I'd rather wait for other opinions before I decide what to do, as I'm already after a bad (unrelated) experience yesterday that could've gone VERY wrong and I'm trying to avoid a heart attack.

Java 6 Update 4 is working without a hitch in 98SE.

I'll check if the latest BROWSEUI.DLL has the same problem with the Windows Me Explorer as the previous version did...

Also, Sun Java 6.0 Update 5 is out. I have not tested it yet though... I'll post the results...

EDIT: KB944533 looks good so far... Java 6.0u5 looks good so far...

EDIT2: It's been 12 days and all is good! KB944533 must be the best IE6 SP1 update pack that MS have released.
No problems. Not a sausage. Zilch. Java 6u5 is just as stable.

Thanks for posting. The JEMMEX dos utils make me very happy. I might have done things wrong in the past with others, but this is the first UDMA manager that works on my VIA chipset/mainboard. Backing up my Windows partition now takes 14 minutes instead of 25!

RetroOS, Microsoft made the official KB944533 IE6 SP1 update for Win2000 SP4 systems only. The unofficial KB944533 IE6 SP1 update for Win98/ME is made by someone else other than MS.

Bad news about KB941029 msvbvm60.dll 6.00.9802 hotfix. It's no longer available, but the good news is that version 6.00.9802 of the msvbvm60.dll file IS included in WinVista SP1 and WinXP SP3. I've obtained this newer file from the XP SP3 RC2 pack. Let me know if anybody wants version 6.0.98.02 of the msvbvm60.dll file.

I should have said that the updated binaries from KB944533 are really stable...
Anyway, I'm sure by now that most readers know that MS have not released an official IE6 SP1 update for 9x for ages...

Another great suite of updates from MDGx!
OLEUP, VBVM60, and SCR579x all good so far...

WIA 1.0 (from previous update additions) back-dated some files...
I understand that it overwrites various STI files with the Me versions...
However, it back-dated Twain files (I'm using the newer versions from XP SP2) and also MSVCP50.DLL.

TWAIN_32.DLL 1.7.1.1 > 1.7.1.0
MSVCP50.DLL 5.00.7051 > 5.00.7022

These files are not unique to Windows Me and should not be back-dated, especially MSVCP50.DLL since it could break some older software.

Hi MDGx,

I notice that you've also added 128sc.dll to your CRYPT9X.EXE package (intended for 98/98SE). But you have removed schannel.dll from it, too. Could you please explain the reasoning here? Do you intend for 128sc.dll to replace schannel.dll, for example?

Just by way of comparison, Gape's USP3 installs schannel.dll.
