.cab files for game install aren't working please respond

im desperate for help. it seems that i cant install any games on my computer because of this error "internal error 2350" ... it says it cant read a certain cab file for some games. the games i hav are new and seem to work fine at friends' computers. please help me its up to u ppl to save me. I appreciate any assisstance.
My system is:
amd athlon 64 3800+ skt 939
asus a8n-sli with nforce4 (latest bios)
1024 ddr-ram dual channel
2 x MSI nvidia 6600gt in sli mode
onboard ac97 sound (i think this is part of the problem)

Maybe it's the copyright protection? I've heard certain games like Far Cry have been a nightmare to install on certain peoples computers because of it.

i got original hlf-life 2 and thats not working either it gives different error but i kno its related

Do you have alcohal(sp?) or daemon tools (or another such program) installed? if you do that many times will not allow an install, as for HL2, they had lots of trouble with that, check www.steampowered.com in the FAQ section, I believe that the have a topic on it.

u solved a part of the problem wen it overcame one cab file but then half-way it stopped at another cab file. ur almost there man any tips. by the way i was installing farcry not hl2. plz help me ender im relying on u
