hi
I have two almost identical 2000 servers that I recently attempted an upgrade to server 2003 on. One server works fine, the other blue screened during the install.
After restoring both servers back to 2000, I diagnosed the problem on the failed server as being a permissions error because after giving the Everyone group Full Control at the root C: and letting it propagate down through folders, I then performed the upgrade again and it worked fine.
There was a piece of software that was installed on the failed server, that has since been removed, that I believe changed permissions on certain folders and has caused the blue screen.
Having now restored the server back to its original state I am just querying is there a tool that I can run to check permissions on certain folders so that I can compare them against the other server and see where the permissions differ?
Cheers

Use cacls or xcacls - export settings to two different files and finally compare this two files using WinDiff or similar tool
- ← Win2003 on new hardware from a Ghost image
- Windows NT4/2000/2003
- Systematic BSOD during Win2003 SP1 Setup →
