Hey guys,

I was trying to install Windows Media Services in Windows XP. You need to have Windows Server 2003 CD.
(Trial: http://www.microsoft.com/windowsserver2003...l/default.mspx)

Step 1: Add the following under [Components] in %WINDIR%\inf\sysoc.inf
wms=wmsocm.dll,OcEntry,wmsocm.inf,,3

Step 2: Copy wmsocm.inf in Server 2003 CD\I386 to %WINDIR%\inf
Step 3: Copy wmsocm.dll in Server 2003 CD\I386 to %WINDIR%\system32\setup

Now load Add or Remove Programs > Add/Remove Windows Components

Windows Media Services should now show up in the list. Tick that and You will need the Windows Server 2003 CD to proceed installation.

You will get an initialization error during the installation. Just cancel that and it will finish installing. Now one problem. The Windows Media Services service is not added to Windows Services.

We need to get this figured and then we should be able to use Windows Services in Windows XP. If you are interested in this project this is something for you to try in your freetime. :)

Cheers,
McoreD
