Yeah, its called "MENU BAND"... You can change this in the registry:

Located at:
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{5b4dae26-b807-11d0-9815-00c04fd91972}

To removed the MENU BAND, all you have to do is put a - in between the { and the 5... so the registry key should now look like this:

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{-5b4dae26-b807-11d0-9815-00c04fd91972}

And restart your computer, and it should be gone... to get the MENU BAND back all you have to do is removed the - :)

Yes... your best way to answer these kinds of questions is to backup the registry entry (right-click -> Export) and then apply the regtweak. There are very few regtweaks that will cause your computer to be unbootable to the point where you wouldn't be able to get back in and fix things.

EDIT By the way...

@undeadsoldier: How do you find these things? Lots of spare time on your hands? Or is there a good resource for more of these little tweaks?

EDIT2 Umm... I just tried this out and for some reason, my startmenu doesn't work anymore! I'm using the classic start menu - which may be my problem since it seems like this tweak may disable all Explorer based menu items.

I found these reg files however which will disable the menu bar only. The moment that you enable/disable another toolbar, however, it'll pop back and you have to re-apply the regtweak. The only other way I found that could get this is to reshack a file... (can't remember which one).

If you want, here is a zipped folder that will get rid of the throbber (The Windows Flag) in either Internet Explorer and/or Windows Explorer :)

For the hidemenubar.zip file, check the MD5 of the file. It should be:

cc715f9932430dd3a0fc015df2ecbb3a

For an MD5 summer, go to www.md5summer.com.

Chances are that your download was corrupted. I just tried downloading the file, and opening it in WinRar 3.51. No problems thus far...

Here you go... I had to rebuild the archive with PKZIPFIX before it'd open properly...
