if you count the windows installer update, i'm using 19 files
Thanks, Shark. The 50-cent question: where can I get those files? A link that would allow me to grab them would sure be great, been Googling and scouring the Windows update site with no success, starting to get frustrated.

if you go to this url it will prompt you to install windowsupdate 6
WindowsUpdate v6
go ahead and install it.

Then you can follow my process to get the files from your system32 dir

For sure, right there on page 1. :blushing: Thanks.

Edit: But I count only 14 files, to include wups2.dll. What am I missing?

Another edit: OK, I see, the additonal 5 files come from Windows Installer 3.1. I need to take a break.

The other 5 files are the windows installer updates
required for windowsupdate v6 to work properly.
Windows Installer 3.1 (v2)

as stated earlier, extract the 5 files from the update with WinRAR

msi.dll
msiexec.exe
msihnd.dll
msimsg.dll
msisip.dll

and compress them to I386 also.

Check for uncompressed versions of these files already existing in I386.
Delete them if they exist.

@sonic - yes, they are detected as installed and no longer require updating.

I dont know what effect this will have on Windows File Protection though.
I dont use this feature. I build this CD for my own personal use.
I am not concerned with WFP because i dont need to protect the files from myself.

for further reference to my method of updating/integrating see this post:

@shark007

The weird thing now is that I have 2 instances of Windows Installer 3.1 (KB893803) at add/remove programs.

I think this happened after I integrated the 5 last .dl_ files, AND also clicked to update to v6 at windows update, as it did not see it was already installed. Any ideas?

Crap, I see the problem.

In i386\SVCPACK dir I have the following files.

KB893803.exe
KB893803_wxp.cat
KB893803v2.exe
KB893803v2_wxp.cat

should I remove any of those, since I integrated the updated files in i386?
The reason why I had the last 5 files uncompressed, was most likely that I had already /integrated the hotfixes above?

1st of all, when you run /integrate on a hotfix it will often remove the
compressed file from I386 and replace it with a new uncompressed file.
Thats how you got the uncompressed versions in your I386 folder.

2ndly, if you're simply copying over compressed files to your I386 dir
like i do, and replacing the existing files, there is no need to have the
above commands in svcpack folder/inf at all.

Yeh, that's kinda what i figured. So I could safely remove all those 4 files and its entries in svcpack.inf ++?

Actually these discussions are refer to 6th version of Windows Update. It has nothing but a new look and an interface.

You must try

http://update.micros...microsoftupdate

instead of just http://update.microsoft.com .

This is the real version 6 of Microsoft's Product Updating System. And its new name is "Microsoft Update". It also adds a new icon to your start menu(The old one also connects the new MU site). Its main difference is you can update all of your MS Software(currently Windows,Office and SQL products are supported) at one page simultaneously. It also updates the AU client to receive critical updates of these Office and SQL products.

Can some1 grab this MU's site's ActiveX files?

Thank You!

i believe the file muweb.dll in this cab is what your looking for.
http://update.microsoft.com/microsoftupdate/v6/V5Controls/en/x86/client/muweb_site.cab?1120212506406

though i still havent tested this.
