RAID-5 write speed 3,000% slower then single drive

Recommended Posts

Write speed of a single drive when not setup in a raid array is 37.8 MB/second

Write speed to the drives when in a raid 5 array is 0.89 MB/second.

Can anyone help on why the write speed is so slow. It is very noticeable. I'm constantly waiting on the hard drive light to go off before I am able to do anything.
