I'm looking for a good reference for working with the OSC menu files for RIS. The main problem I've run into is on one RIS install I have the options for doing a automatic or custom setup (choice.osc), but on another set of servers I don't have that option. After logging in it skips that screen.

So, does anyone know of some good info on customizing and creating OSC files?

Thanks
Mike

I don't have the reference in front of me, but I remember seeing some info on doing this in Mark Minasi's Mastering Windows 2000 Server. I'm going to make an assumption that this would also be covered in the more recent release Mastering Windows 2003 Server.

As I recall it wasn't a too in depth look at the topic but enough to get you going on it.

I know this thread is there for a couple month but if you don't have the custom option enabled, check your GPO settings.

The RIS option you can have in your CIW are enabled there.

The RIS options are in the user configuration container of your GPO, so the server matters less than the user account used to run RIS. If the user account is in a GPO that doesn't have the custom option enabled, then you won't get that option on a RIS server.

If you want to enable this for all of your RIS servers in your domain, you should probably make this setting enabled in your default domain policy, rather than lower-level user policies.
