How to write foreign characters

Recommended Posts

Hello all.

I have my RunOnceEx almost perfectly going, so now I am looking for little detais.

This is a RunOnceEx screenshot.

My windows is in portuguese, and I have a RunOnceEx entry that says "A associar extensões" (Associating extensions).

That character "õ" doesn't appear right, so I would like to ask what have I got to do to make RunOnceEx show foreign characters.

I searched the forum, but only found problems related to foreing characters appearing in links.

the problem is not runonceex i think.

but the problem might be the command shell executing the batch file that adds the information to the registry during setup.

try to get the encoding of the letter by testing in batchfiles with echo commands and a ascii table.

Vad,

Can you point me a text editor that can save in DOS 866 encoding?

I followed your link, downloaded the first program - Syn - but I don't see where can it save as dos 866.

A tried also with notepad++ without success.

I searched google, but almost all of the sites are in russian.

Thanks

there's always multiple ways to do this. the easier would be to open your command prompt and type "edit.com" without quotes.

once in the program type your foreign characters like á, é, í or ö, û. finally save the file and re-open it with notepad.

you'll see the characters have changed into their DOS format.

this trick has been posted before so a bit of searching should help ;)

Edit: didn't see the previous answer, had the window open for too long :)

Interesting. However, I just tried typing in Russian keyboard layout and it didn't work. Trying to switch the layout from EN to RU with ALT+SHIFT didn't accomplish anything, while changing the layout through the kbd indicator in the tray (I'm under Win2k at the moment) didn't switch the layout at all.

I searched google, but almost all of the sites are in russian.
Indeed, Russians have hundreds of Notepad replacements :) Probably, because there are two Russian encodings to begin with (KOI-8 and Windows 1251). This is the first one with English installer and interface I ran across

Sorry, I thought you'd find something at sourceforge...

Well, well,

I found another problem: &

What about this character?

If one has this entry, e.g.: REG ADD %KEY%\005 /VE /D "Spybot Search & Destroy" /f

it does not show right in the RunOnceEx window.

I have tried the edit.com method but & is always & in notepad.

I have tried this - ^& - but it also does not work, so I don't know what to do.

Any help, please?

Thank you in advance
