Zero PopUp Killer XP v4.2

Zero Popup Killer XP is a small, effective, and intelligent anti-pop-up software product that can kill annoying pop-up windows without human intervention by using artificial intelligence and intelligent agent technologies. It is light on your system's resources and resides in the system tray.

It works as an add-in for Internet Explorer and automatically starts when you start up the IE browser.

OS: Windows XP/2000/NT/98/95/Me

Website: Ax Soft http://www.ax-soft.com/

xper found this and posted it in our software section. It is free.

if your refering to net sends like enonemoose just spoke of do the following to avoid it from every happening again...

Start>Control Panel>Admin Tools>Services>Scroll down until you find Messenger Service>Right click it>Select Properties>Then change the startup Type Manual>Press the stop button to shut down the service and press "OK" to save your settings.

Thats all you have to do to stop Messanger Spam.

windows messenger does not, I repeat DOES NOT cause pop ups, you are getting advertisements pop ups that are being sent using Messenger Service which is NOT APART OF MSN Messanger....while surfing the internet of you get a window that is being used my Internet explorer, that is a pop up, the other is called a Net Send.

To disable net send pop ups do as I posted before. No software will stop net sends, only turning off the service will.

I hope everyone understands now :)

if you are on network then stopping net send might effect your ability to recieve and send messages across to other PC's.

here http://www.stopmessengerspam.com/ will help you and it is completely free. messengerblocker.com charges for same kinda solution.

btw i can't agree with XPerties more. if you are on a stand alone PC, stop the messenger service. it will not only stop those pop-ups but will also save you some precious memory!

Would it not be sensible to configure a firewall to prevent people on the Internet accessing whatever port the Messenger service uses on your PC? If you're on a network, block this at your router (easy to do if you've got a PC set up as a NAT box).

This is not directed at the original poster (the newbie), but at all the people who have suggested was of preventing the problem.

This way, you still have the Messenger service if you need it, but people on the 'net can't abuse it. Would you share your C: drive or an SMTP servger out to the entire world?

If you're getting pop-up messages, do what XPerties posted...

If you're just getting advertising pop-ups, use a pop-up stopper...I think there are some free ones out there...

Most modern browsers (e.g. http://phoenix.ragweed.net/ ) block all 'pop-up' windows, except ones that you explicitly wanted (as a result of clicking on a link). If you don't like the functionality of the browser you have, use one that suits you better.

The one I use is proxomitron (http://www.proxomitron.org). Besides blocking pop-ups it can also remove ads from web-pages.

Since it's working as a proxy-server you don't even notice any pop-up's that opens and closes immediately. This also means that it is working width any web-browser.

It's completly free.
