External hardisk case with usb 2.0

Recommended Posts

EDIT: PROBLEM IS SOLVED, NO NEED TO READ IF U KNOW THE ANSWER.

Will a usb 2.0 pci really give me apeeds upto 480Mbps. I plan to get a usb casing and use my old 10Gb harddisk as external backup.

Now this page claims usb 2.0 gives 40 times the speed of usb 1.1

But how can that be possible since the harddisk's read/write speed never goes above 5 mb/s  . In other words just by sing using usb2.0 instead of ide, data transfer will increas 40 times?

isit ture or am i confusing different things

Fast data/files access and transfer rate up to 480mb/Sec

thanks

So much speed can i expect from these setups

1. 10gb external harddisk with read/write spedd 4mb/s on a USB 2.0

2. 10gb external harddisk with read/write spedd 4mb/s on a USB 1.1

ok, thanks i will get 2.0

But what i really want to know is whether the speed goes above the read/write speed of the harddrive when used as an external usb 2.0 drive

No. The hard drive can only access the data so fast. Speed is always limited by your slowest component.

It's like trying to take an Austin Mini (the old Mr. Bean car) and putting it on the Autobahn. No matter how hard you push the car, it'll only go so fast.
