Spinnerz
I am looking for a softwar similar to nlite for Windows 98 AND windows 95.I understand that 98Lite would do the trick, but im looking more for a program to shrink the installation CD preinstall, not post install as I understand 98Lite does. Thanks in advance.`Spinz` Edited July 30, 2005 by Spinnerz

Spinnerz
I realize nlite won't work on 9xI was just asking for a similar program. But 98Lite will shrink the CD files preinstall? They made it sound like a post-installation program that you ran to remove components...

You can remove Internet Explorer and some other components during installation. Yes, it can remove stuff on preinstallations.
eidenk
Anyway nLite removes components but needs a huge runtime (.net framework) to be installed first before running it.
iWindoze
Anyway nLite removes components but needs a huge runtime (.net framework) to be installed first before running it.<{POST_SNAPBACK}>A bigger drawback is the fact that you're required to be ineither Windows 2000 or XP in order to use it, although I can'ttell how much of that is a Microsoft fault and how much of itis simple limitations on what nLite is capable of.As for the runtime requirements, pls take a look again at thesite, they've managed to knock that requirement down to amere 4mbs in a installer that will install only the files nLiteACTUALLY requires...so you can see why I'd think the OS isa bit more of a limiting factor than the runtimes, right? That said, to me one of the bigger advantages (also can bea disadvantage at times tho') is nLite's ability to remove filesfrom being installed without still requiring them to be presenton the install cd--something that 98Lite\LiteXP can't hold acandle to. It comes down to using the right tool for the rightjob after having weighted all the pros and cons.--iWindoze
