hi there
the linksys router + adsl modem I've is wireless capable.
we've 4 computers at home 2 are connected via wires, other 2 wireless.

as of yesterday wired one's cannot connect to the internet.
does anyone know what this could be about?

i cannot open the modem's configuration page (192.168.1.1)
i tried resetting it, nothing changed...

Use these steps to attempt to resolve your issue, usually works for me.
  • Turn off all your computers.
  • Disconnect the power to your router.
  • While the power is off, and since you should wait at least 3 minutes before powering it on again, check all your connections. Make sure that your telephone wire is okay and well plugged in. Do the same with your network cables.
  • After 3 minutes have elapsed, plug your router back in.
  • After your router has finished initializing and is back online, usually 2-5 minutes, turn on all of your computers.
  • Check for the internet on each computer.
On computers that do not have an internet connection, in Windows XP, open a command prompt and type ipconfig. Check to see if you have an IP assigned. If you do, then you're having a routing problem. If not, then your problem is possibly the router. Either way, try the resetting technique above, and if that does not fix your problem, then post here and we'll help you work through it.

Can you access 192.168.1.1 from your wired computers?

Sounds like your router is going bad, you might be able to work around it by assigning a static IP to the wired computers. Be sure to put in the DNS and Gateway IPs pointing to the router.

And I assume you mean it does not work, try putting in the DNS from your ISP or 4.0.0.1 if you don't know it. --- but it sure sounds like your wired ports are bad.

You're screwed unless you want to risk a firmware flash -- it's a long shot!

last time i upgraded the firmware the router wasn't able to connect to the internet.. (i know its wierd) but i'll try it again.
2 of my other friends have the same modem.
1 i just talked to, he said the had this problem last week as well. he said it just started working after few days.. i dunno his firmware
other friend uses the newer firmware (which i had patched) he won't know it bc all comps at his house are connected via wireless..

so i dunno, i don't want to wait for indefinite time till the modem feels better?? so i'll patch and it see, but then i might not be able to connect to the internet. anyways i'll downgrade it if it fails...

then upgraded to it (ow b4 that I downloaded firmware for my current version 1.01.7 as well)
bc as expected when i upgraded it didn't even connect to internet

I'm glad it's working for you. Linksys makes good products and I was very suprised to see that you were having so much trouble with their product.
