OK,

After reformatting a few days ago, I've been having this one problem that's really annoying me. Everytime I open up one of my mapped network drives, it says that there is an incorrect username or password asks me for another username/password, but I always enter the one it said was incorrect and it accepts it...

How can I fix this problem? :}

I would delete the mapped drive then gointo your users cp and add your self there then remap.

is the machine you are trying to access showing up any failure in the security log. if so(they should be) what are they saying.

Taking the obvious out of the way.. they are a part of the same workgroup right.

Did you go into the managed network password area. I forgot to post about that in the users cp.

Goto your user accounts conrol panel. Click on yourself if needed. IN relates tasks on the top left click on manage net passwords. Click add and add it following the guidlines. That is a good workaround to save any type of passwors using shares.

That's strange. What happens if you change the user and computer name on the server? Does the servers event viewer say anything?

Server's event viewer has no errors... :}

Yes, guest user is enabled. I've never had this problem before.

I should mention that I've reformatted with an nLited CD.

okay last try...

in the server where htdocs is stored..

check properties of that folder..

and then check tab sharing and then clickon permissions button

and see if guest is allowed or not...

and if you have simple file sharing unchecked (tools - folder options - views - [last option]) then check in security tab also...

if not allowed then add it...

that should do the job...

hmm strange problem I must say, becuase this kind of problem happens if something is wrong in config from server site i.e. remote machine

I was facing them same kind of problem some time back but then I just deleted that share from network drive and added it again and stored user and pass again so it worked (but I guess u have already tried it and didnt work for u)

I will look around for solution and reply if I find anything

Regards
Deep

Is this in a domain or workgroup?

That's strange... I've always done networking without the Guest account. Have you tried using a login of a user on the remote computer? For me, it's always remembered that setting (probably since there was a password involved).

Try leaving the workgroup then rejoining & remapping the drive.

I'm thinking here that the Sid's for automatic logon have changed since the reformat, which would cause the incorrect username box to appear.

When you enter it again, only the user/pwd is used to authenticate and since that exists on the server, you can log on.

Leaving the workgroup and then rejoining should reset all the Sid's for the reformatted computer, allowing you to access the drive without entering a username/password.

Hope that works for you.

Yeah... the guest account does suck. That's why I always disable it on my computers... it also helps to protect us security paranoid people from having "guests" on our computers... ;)
