I have a laptop with a Netgear WG511T wireless card in it. 108mb features enabled. I also have a wireless router which is a WGT624v2. 108mb features enabled on this also. Have already downloaded latest drivers for network card and latest firmware(NON-BETA) for the router.

Laptop is WinXP Pro SP2 w/o firewall enabled

I have a file server(win2k3) connected at 100MB at my house which stores.. well files.. If i transfer a large file.. lets say 200mb plus, from my laptop to my file server, My network utilization doesnt get much higher than 2%. However. If I terminal into my Server and pull the file off the laptop and transfer it to the server disk, I am able to get over 40% utilization.

This is the only wireless device in my house(except PDA) and all hardwired computers in my house transfer equally both ways.

I guess I dont really know what my question is other than why is this. Why is it that I can pull from the server faster than I can push to the server?

108Mbps routers/cards are meant for streaming video/audio across a network. They are not meant for transferring files across a network. Also, your router or wireless card may be interferring with something else and/or something may be interferring with it.

I hope you have a better understanding of this 108Mbps standard. :)

Honestly that is the first time I have heard that. Please reveal your source for this. I am no expert on wireless standards so I started doing some research and found some specs on Netgears site about their technology and it does specify file transfers. Most sources I could find said that 108mbps technology improved audio/video streaming and gaming but not that that was what it was meant for..
here is Netgears white papers on 108mb technology. http://www.netgear.com/pdf_docs/108Mbps_Su...r_29Apr2004.pdf

Either way, I know I am not gonna get 108mbps out of these routers.. I was happy with the 40% when I pulled from my server. I am just want to know why I can only get 2% one way and 40% the other way.
