From the past Five yearsgoogle has completely changed the way it was . I mean today Google is rather the ruler of the internet. Each new Item brought up by Google creates Craze like madness among people on the net. This is just the craze fw years ago that once even Yahoo! enjoyed.People today are going mad for google stuff like GMail,Google Earth .Also not to forget about that GMail is still in the BETA stage. Google sure knws how to keep the craze on . Adsense was the biggest hit ever . It earns nearly 95% of its revenue of 1 Billion from the from the ADSENSE. So Following suite even Yahoo! jumped in the competition and has developed Yahoo! Publishers which is still rather in the BETA stage and so only The U.S. citizens can participate in it and not us . What do you think about this will Yahoo give a tough comeback against Google or will it rather stay in the secong position? Will Yahoo Prove to be a Coup-de- grace to Google Inc. ?

When someone asks you a question and you are too lazy to answer it or they don't get what you are trying to explain, what do you say? I don't say search for it on the internet. I say google it.

Could you imagine saying yahoo it? Hells no, because google is more than just a search engine, it has become a word. Just wait, a dictionary will soon say:

Google - (pronounciation in those funky letters) verb
To tell someone to search on the internet with a desire for knowledge.

Unfortunately, Google will become a well known verb instead of a proper name.

Sort of like Xerox and Kleenex, being synonymous with all products of the same type.

All copies have been called Xerox's. and all nose-wipers have been called Kleenex, at least a million times or so.

So just,,,, "Google" IT!

I agree with most of the replies but I have seen Google's hiring practices and they are impressive. Never seen anything from Yahoo. Google doesn't take the cream of the crop. They take the cream of the cream. the very best. Some extremely sharp minds work for Google and they make their products quite easy and pleasant to work with. No muss, no fuss and no clutter. I don't know if others do it but to have advertising that is page sensitive is brilliant. I don't see this star burning out any time soon.

Do you Yahoo!?

I voted for Yahoo!
Many still use My Yahoo! as their homepage.
It can be personalised.
Games are good. So is Yahoo! Messenger with Voice
and video.

I use Google mainly for searches and email.

IMO Google has very good and specialised products
but Yahoo! has taken very deep roots.

Yeah, and it's all American isn't it?

Can't find Melbourne's weather.
Movies are for US cities.
Etc.

Like I said, Google is excellent for whatever they have already but Yahoo! has reached the masses. Google will definitely topple Yahoo! if it intends to. But I think it is aiming for Microsoft.

Funny thing, there is even an "Ask Yahoo!" section in the link you gave. :}

What I am saying is, people get all the relevant info in one (or two, if one can't fit) page with My Yahoo!. And this is all over the world almost. No need to get movie times from MSN email, video chat from somewhere else, currency conversion, games, etc from somewhere else.

This is the main reason ordinary people set their homepages to My Yahoo! or something similar like My NineMSN. Only thing is My NineMSN does not have mail preview. So, until Google makes their personalised homepage better I don't think people will leave Yahoo! for it. And I think Google is concentrating their efforts on searches and desktops and gmail and Google Talk. Because these are the areas Google can apply Adsense.

By the way, you can find Ask Yahoo! under Fun when you Add Content to your page.

Im not pushing you to switch but have you signed in with a google account (i noticed you have a gmail account) and customized it
I dont want movie times there because i rarely see movies once a week is good enough. (But yes the option would be good to have)

You can have gmail preview, directly read your email on the front page
and have tools like links to www.xe.com the best currecny converter.
Also its the latest thing to go in 'beta' under google labs, yahoo have had theirs for years
Google have only just started one, and its great (not for everyone of curse)

I personally think that the Yahoo and MSN 'my' pages are very bloated and ad filled
Also im sure if google wanted they could put adsense in the start page.

But i want you to know im not arguing or trying to start one im just pointing out info for other people as well.
There will always be people that rather Yahoo over Google or vise versa
It choice, everyone has it and its great to have there

Google or Yahoo?

Well... Google may reach a broader international audience, bigger than Yahoo, but like on any search engines, there are things one finds and the other doesn't.

Now the services each offers, personally I don't use My Yahoo! as a start page, it goes directly to Yahoo.com basicly the front page of Yahoo could be used as a image definition of what a web portal should be, you just have everything you could possibly need on the front page (weather, news, entertainment, mail, etc..).

Advertisements?
Get real, its the year 2005 not 1994, publicity online, spam and phishing are from a long time ago a uncontrollable thing which will exist forever, Yahoo! Mail pages have ads, Google Mail has ads, you can block image ads using free ad blockers, or in my case Agnitum Firewal, which is free. The avarage user doesn't even care about those, only geeks and nerds like us.

Yahoo Messenger vs. Google Talk
I'm an avid user of Yahoo Messenger, not having tried Google Talk yet, I've read that it is based on a open source IM program, the great thing about Google Talk its the cross platform feature it offers which Yahoo doesn't, at least it doesn't offer the same features in its Mac and Unix versions that the Windows version has. Also from what I've read, thats mostly where Google scores points, where Google Talk doesn't offer features like avatars /images, webcams, chatrooms, on their messaging program I'm sure it won't take long for that to happen because after all it is still beta and it is the first version of it. Where MSN loses and Yahoo Messenger wins (Not sure about Google Talk you guys tell me on that) its the system resources hog that MSN Messenger can become.

Google services vs Yahoo services
Google offers in number, less but in quality just as much as Yahoo. There are just to many for me to go into details. Just to mention a few let's say the most obvious, their webmail service (POP3 in Google's case), and programs like Konfabulator and Google Earth, distinct and just as useful as we all know, also Yahoo Music Engine (which is just like iTunes) and Blogger (not a offline program but used world wide)

In my opinion there are no winners, just like the war of the browsers doesn't have an end, the war of search engines won't as well, but Google is going far, to me my biggest concern about Google is their Terms of Use and Privacy Policy, very dubious, but if I chose Google, I could not possibly do everything with Google services like I do now with Yahoo services, Yahoo has everything I need and Google doesn't, its just as simple as that.

My 2 cents

What are you wolf demon 2?
Seriously that post doesnt help anything
and to clear things up, a search engine doesnt have a sexuality (maybe booble.com) so really stop being a child
This is a thread about yahoo and google and talking about their diferences

vando2k i agree with you, but i do think that the part about service quality is a bit unfair (i might have misunderstood you) some of yahoo's services are better but i think gmail will by far be the best free email service out.

But remember alot of googles services are still in beta so thery are yet to be improved and given widely.
But thank you for not 'trolling' and giving it a good opinion view on it (unlike wolf demon)

@matt5108: Well, I can't exacly say that Yahoo! IS better than Google or vice versa, because both offer distinct and good quality services, it would be unfair to say Yahoo IS better because I use Yahoo for everything, and don't even touch Google unless I want to search on my own country, which is a shame that Yahoo hasn't expanded to Portugal.

The only problem that I find very very irritating using Yahoo is the help service, which doesn't exist, what does exist is a huge FAQ page that doesn't help much.

Now my Yahoo side is like wolf demon, he said what I wanted to say lol, and said something similar to what I said on another thread about Google.

It is in my opinion that Google only has its popularity for the same reason as Crazy Frog, advertisement. Besides the common American user will not use Google, because most likely doesn't know much about it, Google offers a good service to who has a good computer knowledge, Yahoo is more consumer orientated offering a good service for users without a vast computer knowledge, thats the major diference in all of them, there are people who don't even know how to copy and paste, for them Yahoo is simpler because it offers a "without having to know how" service, while Google doesn't.

Just look at the Blogger service and the 360° Yahoo!, anyone but really anyone can use the 360° and why is that? Because it doesn't have any costumizations at all for the service, its what you see, just add thngs to it, of course that brings out the dissadvantage of costumization, but it is easier for many to use that instead of Blogger who asks the person where does he/she want to host their blog, which for many users would be a mindless task trying to figure out what does that mean.

Just another difference I wanted to share with yall lol
