gdogg, if you're not already aware of it, this may be of use to you as well...
UPX.
i started compressing FF and TB exe's/dll's and noticed a significant decrease in load times, plus the space savings. you just have to be careful what switches you use.

Dude, if u wanna open an upx compressed exe, the loadtime isnt faster, coss it hass to decompress the exe first, and then launch it... Check their website.

I did that some time ago, and I can confirm it makes loading and even browsing in Firefox a bit faster. But it requires more CPU when starting up, I think. Maybe also when rendering web pages.

hmm interesting

should this work with optimised firefox too?

cause its already dammmnn fast

like 1/3 or 1/8 the load times of regular firefox , they even got one for thurderbird, i just grabed it now, also, much faster load times

you should really check them out, http://www.moox.ws/tech/mozilla/

launching execuatable, windows places executable in memmory --> it launches

with upx
launchin executable, decompressing to memmory --> it launches

Checked other forums as well, its only a space saver on ur harddisk, cause it eats even more memmory according to some :/

i UPX'd all of FF exe's and dll's i can state for a fact that load time has decreased by about 1 second, both cold and warm. warm is now right about 2 seconds with quite a few plugins. this is without windows prefetching. i never checked CPU usage however.

ok, first load on my computer is 2 seconds, warm boot isn't even 1 second, maybe 1/8th a second, so i think its all good for me to not bother with it

are you using the optimised firefox builds yet?

I have to say that I'm looking forward to a USB-thumbdrive version of Windows XP, that isn't based on the Embedded XP's... This project is inspiration for all of us that have tried things like this ourselves, and failed....

gdogg this is a very cool project. I have been following along since the start.
I found and used your 2k3 memory controler with good results and also shared it with people who also had good results.
Thanks :thumbup and good luck on this project

@gdogg

Just found this thread today, sounds great!!

I have a link to some detailed info on how to get XP slimmed down. Also in the link is some info on Perfect Disk and a couple of tips on files it needs. This guy spent a lot of time checking out files etc.

Click the link, then goto "Slimming Down Windows XP: The Complete Guide" and do a text search for "perfect". You will find the info.

I'm not saying this is the greatest link ever, but it does have many details. Maybe you already have this link, maybe not.

I just want to help and be a part of the project too :)

Hope I can help.

late october,
it will be around my court date of oct 27 , if I win

i have no money, and in order to finish this im gonna need some 60 hours of coding, 30 mins a day is about all i can do right now, sitting is not possible for longer than that

when i get some money, i can get some pain killers, and finish this alot faster

here is an example of how this windows has helped

swat 4 1600X1200 in nlited windows 50FPS
swat 4 1600X1200 my windows 80-90FPS

this is hopefully something i can reproduce

dont ask why, it just does

if i could get 3dmark to run, im sure my 9800pro will be eqiv of a x800xl , cause my buddy with one, doesn't even touch my fps in my windows under his nlited one

good news
nov 10th will be the release of the removed files .cmd
reg cleanup close to the end of the month
nov 13 since its such a lucky day, reg tweaks

first beta tests wont be 57MB as different computers, install different drivers, which is beyond my control. Also i am working on my seconds install that only uses nlite no xp system builder, so this will make it a fair amount larger

but it will be easy to get down to 57MB again, after a few user try it out, and I should have a second beta as of tommarror,

those who want to try this have til noon, you dont have to be on my beta testers list to get in

just msg me, i will let you know if you can help with beta testing, or whether you should wait for a more friendly , complete version
