MrSin
I thought I would share with everyone that I just purchased the Yamaha LightSpeed 3, 24x write, E-IDE Internal CD-RW Recorder "Designed for Windows XP" and it works marvelously ! I got it at Best Buy for $199. Prior to this I had an HP CD-Writer 7200 series that I never could get to work under Windows XP (or Windows 98 for that matter) although HP claims they are working on and updated driver <sigh>...Anyway, I thought I would share. Oh! It came with a bunch of software but the actual burning apps are NERO :lilwinkMrSin...[/color:c8826951ef]
Drewdatrip
Man! 24x burn! what your time on an average Cd? Cd to Cd? and HD To CD? I have a TDK 12x and i burn a full Cd (600-750mb) in like 6mins i just dont see the need to burn that quickly! -drew
MrSin
Drewdatrip, you are right, I didn't choose the Yamaha so much for the speed (24x) as I did the fact that it was and is 'designed for XP.'I don't have those specs for you just yet as I just got it last night and burned my first CD this morning . I can tell you it is fast and relatively quiet from what I am used to hearing coming from the fast CD drives! Suffice it to say, I am very pleased with my Yamaha .MrSin...[/color:dce7329183]

MrSin
Drew, the last time I went to a CompUSA, it was because they had advertised a free tape backup with the purchase of a disk drive. Well, they had the disk drive but had run out of the tape back ups and wanted to give me a rain check or some such thing on that. I said thanks but no thanks and haven't been back since! In addition to Best Buy we also have a Fry's Electronics nearby which is really good for purchasing separate components for us do it yourselfers ! Also PC Clubs but they don't have a very large inventory :cry.I agree XPerties, it is very nice to see the hardware and software vendors finally rolling out there wares for XP!MrSin...[/color:5834aa4a65]

Drewdatrip
Yea pretty much. some are known to have issues with Xp, but the majority can be fixed with the burner update at the update site.-drew

Markod
Thanks for the link to the FAQ page. I am using whatever comes with XP to burn the CD. I followed pretty much what that link says to do. Today I will call the computer place that installed the CD-RW drive and go from there. People have suggested I need to install some other type of software like Nero etc. I think XP uses Roxio. s1m0n
I myself have a 24x10x40x burner, and I gotta tell you: When you have the speed, there's no turning back! Honestly to say, 6 min isn't much, but think, just think, a cd in about half that time! Hehe, it's all in the speed baby.Besides, some people really has the need for fast speed burners... take myself, I can't seem to burn fast enough, as of now, I only have 3 Gig left on my 60 Gig drive because of "stuff"
XPerties
[b:8a51110917]Markod[/b:8a51110917] - 1 thing we need to know. What are you trying to burn thats not working? And XP only has direct CD installed, nothin else from Roxio.-XPerties
Markod
I have since figured out what went wrong.I found out that to copy music you must use Windows Media Player and the "copy music" funtion. Once I did that everything went fine. Before I did that I was just copying the files onto the CD and it wouldn't play. Thanks for your reply. XPerties
yah because the music isnt in MP3 format. WMP does that for you so the disk will play.-XPerties
