The podcasts can be disabled, and the links removed from iTunes, just using the options pages.
Personally I havn't used them either, but maybe one day. It only takes me 2 minutes to walk down the stairs, pick up a coffee and be at work so I dont think I'll be able to justify downloading podcasts for that rikgale :P

@Menedas:
You seem to have very specific requirements (and obviously sensitive ears - I cant tell the difference between media _properly_ encoded at 192 and that at 256 personally), so go with what does it for you. There are better converters / cd rippers around than iTunes I am sure though.

I have really searched for this option but can't found it. Where is it?

No, the 256k VBR version is only for my archiv. These files are only for recompression, if I need the music in an other format like mp3. I'm using 128k for my iPod and normal listening. And the small space on my iPod is the reason to save as much as possible. I hope the next iPod gen will have a 80gig version.

Actually, in 4.9 you can disable the downloads of podcasts (set it to manual, but not remove the link. iTunes 5 allows you to totally disable them, removing the link, by the use of the parental control functions.
Ver 5 (5.01 certainly) also allows AAC to be recorded in vbr. I tend to use mp3 for all my tunes, so have not experimented with aac too much, and was not aware the size of media had increased with QT7. Infact, the only reason QT is on my machine is to alllow iTunes to run - dont use it for anything else.

I need a bigger iPod too - 40Gb is just not enough :no:

They're just doing this to annoy me! :lol:
I'll download and take a look. Not much else to do here since the weather is so bad we are just bouncing around trying to stop everything hitting the deck....
Otherwise, I'm OK, thanks :) Yourself?

Edit : 34Mb, well, not too much bigger than the last one! Lets see what size it really needs to be! ;)

Wait until I've done it first, but you're welcome :lol:

One thing worth noting is that this requires QT ver 7.0.3 - I'll check to see if QT Alt supports this. Got it down to roughly the same size as I had ver 5.01, still got to track down the annoying attempt to install QT and it's done.

I'll probably get it finished in a few hours when I get off shift. May throw in a localized ver of QT 7.03 a bit later as a bonus for those who dont like QT-alt :D

Edit : Seems that QT-Alt 1.62 (the latest I can find) only has QT 7.0.2 :(. Guess we have to use the official version until the Alt gets updated.

I'll try and knock out a silent installer if I can find 5 mins 2morw evening, if the files are done by then. Apple/iTunes seem to be stay one step ahead of K-lite mega codec, with regards to the QT alt codec.

I did just notice that a video ipod has been released, so that might explain the v6. Enjoy your shift.

Which video formats is the new iPod able to play? I'm afraid that it isn't very probable that he can play xvid or divx. And again no 80 gb version. :}

Update:
This may take a while :(
I have a version without QT7, localized for english that sits at about 7.5Mb under 7z.
Only problem is that they have been a bit more sneaky with the QT install part, and I'm having a hard time to bypass it. So, if you have QT 7.0.3 installed it will install fine, but any lesser value and you will get an error. I think the logic is buried in the compiled script file, which is a <sweary word> to get at.
Since you need the latest QT to use this, is it worth me posting this version? Maybe I'll wait until the QT-alt is updated.

@Menedas:
I am not 100% sure, but I guess the new iPod will only support the QT range of video files, apple always seems pretty propriety to me. I hope I'm wrong though! Certainly iTunes installs no codecs or support files for any other format, and I bet you will only get QT-compatible files from the iTunes online store.
And agreed - the iPod is WAY overdue for an 80Gb version! :}

Maybe I'll have better luck after a snooze :D

Grrr....... lets hope K-lite Mega codec pack has 7.0.3, althought I am quite happy with iTunes 5.0.1 atm. All the best with getting that sweary script thingy to work.

itunes v6.0 has an error when you try to import m3u files, when in v5.0 it didn't have that error. So i went back to v5.0 and now everything is fine

I have uploaded iTunes 6 (QT-less, English only), link is in the first post. Please note the comment about QT version! ;)
I'm leaving the version 5 links up also, just until ver 6 is proved stable.

Any chance we could have a mirror that isn't hosted on Rapidshare? I have problems downloading from that site. Otherwise thanks for the new version.

Can anyone recommend an alternative for rapidshare then? Last time I hosted the file it used a months bandwidth in a few days, lol

Maybe at MegaUpload?

Your Avatar looks familiar, something to do with Serenity...?
