me again i am trying to install hl2 from the cd but i keep getting an error. the error occurs when it is trying to locate materials.gfc (i belive that is what it is looking for not 100% sure though) . i can download the game directly from steam but it take about tree and a half hours to do. i dont really know what to do now. i went to the steam support site but i couldn't find any info.

try copying the files from the CD to the a temp folder on your desktop and then run the install from there

if that doesn't work, look for scratches on the CD. if they're not real deep, polish with a light abrasive, like toothpaste or a car polish (not wax).
