Im planning to upgrade my system over the next few months. I can only afford to a new cpu and motherboard, I will have to use my current nvidia 5700 AGP card for a while. My ram is ddr500 so that should be ok ? any ideas, There are so many type of 64bit cpus at the moment :o

how much money you have? a 3200 venice and maybe a dfi nf3 250 since you want to stay with agp which is a horrible choice.

i haven't seen to many AMD boards that use the DDR 500s... So i was thinking it was more on the line of the Intels... but likewise i could be wrong...

yes I use an amd system, currenty overclocking my mobile 2500+ to 2500mhz (250x10) so the ram is running @ ddr500 or PC4000. Well im thinking that I should save for a pci express vga card then. Im on a tight budget though :(

I'd also suggesting waiting because Socket 1002 (M2) is supposed to be released early next year. It is the new CPU socket interface for AMD CPUs. It'll also give you more time to save up too, so sounds like this might be the best for you.

little update , I found myslef a great motherboard graphics card combo deal down from £260 to £150 :o the grpahics card has a dual 6600gt chipset and the reviews on the net of these combo sounds awseome! It socket 939 and supports dual cores , so it future proof.

Gigabyte GV-3D1 with GA-K8NXP-SLI. Geforce Dual 6600GT Chip 256MB Graphics Accelerator bundled with GA-K8NXP-SLI motherboard

Now my next question is Sata 2 worth upgraing too? I currently have a 200 Gig and 1 160 gig IDE drives

I would recommend an upgrade to SATA only if you buy two identic hdd and put them into a raid configuration. This way you will see a noticeable performace boost.
And if you do get sata drives, be sure to get a new model that supports NCQ.

I have personally used a SATA II drive and yes you do see a performance boost... I installed Windows XP SP2 in 10 minutes (it was not nlited)... so in my opionion it is worth it

your spendig around 300$ on those vid cards. you could have gotten a 6800gt instead. and for the mobo you should have gotten the dfi nf4 sli-dr. what ram is that? and do u plan on getting a heatsink?

I agree with Ripken. The dual 6600GT is more of a bragging rights than a performer. For a $300 graphic card, I'm surprised they're still using DDR3 memory on it. Oh well.

The DFI board would have been a better choice in terms of reliability and overclocking, while the PSU is not bad, there are better ones for the price such as the Antec TruPower 550 or the OCZ PowerStream 520. And yes, it would be great to know what RAM you got exactly.
