I have made a Win PE image from Server 2003 Ent and am using a Server 2003 SP1 RIS server to hand out the image.
The image boots fine and it takes me into the GUI but at the starting network stage it comes up with a red cross and a I get a popup dialog asking me if I wish to reboot. Cancelling this takes me into the command prompt where I still have access to the RIS share I booted from but cannot map drives or obtain any IP configuration. I presume RIS has locked the NIC and PE cannot detect it
I am using an Intel Pro 1GB LAN card
Is there a work around to this problem?

It seems like you haven't added the driver for the intel card correctly.
you should place the *.inf in \imagename\i386 and imagename\i386\inf
the sys file should be in \imagename\i386 and \i386\imagename\system32\drivers
The rest should be in \imagename\i386 and imagename\i386\system32
make sure to use late intel driver like 10.X
