Hi,

I'm currently playing with Windows PE 2005 and booting it from Debian Linux based PXE
(I do not use the Ram Image thing)

Is it possible to get a random generated computername in the winnt.sif file ?

I have looked and looked on google and here, and so far nothing about if its possible or not.

I have tried with Computername = *

But it only makes the computername be * instead of a random generated one.

Apparently not, when booting with linux pxe / binlsrv

I followed the guide from http://oss.netfarm.it/guides/pxe.php

My server spec's are:

Newest Debian
DHCP3-server
Samba
tftp-hpa
sherpya's binlsrv.py and other utils.

Everything works great, except the computername is not random but the one specificed in winnt.sif, even if its only * is uses the name * as the machine name which make the workstation service fail.
