MS has recently released an update to msconfig for XP SP2, that adds a tools tab, giving access to a number of Windows tools by default:

KB 906569

According to that article one should be able to add tools to the list, by editng a file, Cfgtlist.xml.

The update did not create such a file (searched with 'show hidden files and folders' checked, 'hide protected system files' unchecked) (although the default list of tools does show in msconfig, so they must be coded in somewhere else?).

So I tried creating one to add a few tools, such as Sysinternals process explorer and some Nirsoft utilities, as per the example given in that article, and saved it in the C:\WINDOWS\PCHealth\HelpCtr\Binaries as instructed.
However they do not show in msconfig (also after reboot). No error messages either

Has anyone succeeded in adding tools to the default list? If so, detailed instructions would be welcome.

I know what update you are talking about. But I have been unsucessful at getting the tools tab. I dont know if there is something funky going or if that hotfix wont work with nLited installs or not. Basically nothing happened after I installed the hotfix so I just uninstalled it. It was a half meg download of nothing.

Meh its aight I guess...some dev at MS decided he himself would find this feature rather useful so he just made a patch for adding tools into msconfig? Thats prob it. Thanks for the instructions to get it to work.
